Great experience with Dr. Millstein. I had a ruptured Achilles Tendon (aka, the Kobe Bryant injury) and was fortunate enough to be referred to Dr. Millstein by an anesthesiologist friend. Injured on Saturday, I saw him on a Monday and had surgery that Thursday. Good follow up from him and his staff. Great bedside manner, confident but not cocky, and he set realistic and practical expectations right from the get-go. I'd recommend him to anyone who is injured and seeking the best surgeon.

I admire Dr. Millstein and his work. He took care of my ACL and meniscus after a freak kick boxing accident. It's been about 2 years and I'm good as new, if not better. I'm back to squatting, kicking, and doing Spartan Races! I highly recommend him for athletes who want a Dr. who understands your active lifestyle. Injuries are just as difficult mentally as they are physically. Dr. Millstein definitely understands that.

I had a rotator cuff repair at this office. As far as the office staff goes, the employees at Dr Millstein's office are top notch. They were able to coordinate my surgery very quickly and worked very well with my personal physician to have the pre-surgical physical done. I was equally impressed with Dr Millstein. I had gone to him on the recommendation of a friend so I knew he would be good but he exceeded expectations. Prior to seeing Dr Millstein, I had made an appointment with another doctor with a large practice. When I went to that appointment I was seen only by a PA who concluded I needed surgery (which I definitely did) and the actual surgeon never introduced himself. Needless to say I was not impressed. My experience with Dr Millstein, however, was as opposite as it could be. He personally met with me and pointed out on my MRI what he planned to do. The PA at the other office had shown me the surgery on a photocopy of a generic picture of a shoulder. Dr Millstein answered all of my questions and I felt very confident knowing he was going to conduct the surgery. As for the actual surgery, it was conducted right around the corner at a surgery center. The staff there is equally efficient and everything went like clockwork. I hope I never need another orthopedic surgery, but if I do, I would never consider going anywhere else.

ONE OF THE BEST!!! This was one of the best doctor experiences I've had recently. From the first contact with the office to make an appointment, through sending me all the necessary paperwork, appointment confirmation and the doctor visit itself (including almost no wait time) it was nothing but pleasure. Dr. Milstein's Beverly Hills office deserves the highest praise. Especially after having a really unpleasant experience with another known doctor from D.I.S.C (Marina Del Rey), I expected what the norm for orthopedic surgeons has become in recent years. Not so. Dr. Milstein is one of the most pleasant, considerate and caring doctors I have encountered in quite some time. As a personal trainer/someone who needs to stay very healthy and active, I am very discerning when it comes to choosing physicians I work with, or recommend to my clients. In my opinion, the knowledge is just as important as service and attitude, since what good is the best knowledge if you don't feel comfortable with the person and the office is sub-par. What sets Dr. Milstein apart from others is a lack of arrogance so commonly seen in many doctors these days. I always thought that with age and experience comes humbleness, but usually it's arrogance instead. Dr. Milstein, even though still very young, is an exception. I hope he never changes.

I echo the other fantastic reviews. Best experience with an orthopedic surgeon I've ever had and best you could hope for! 1) Dr. Millstein obviously knows his area of expertise and is a very skilled surgeon 2) He actually listens to you and takes his time to discuss your symptoms, his thoughts and the reasons for them (not just his conclusions!) and to answer your questions. This last is a real source of irritation for me with many physicians. 3) His staff were efficient, warm and friendly. Appointments were a breeze to schedule. 4) The surgery (torn miniscus) was quick and unbelievably problem free. I was up almost immediately and off crutches the next day. 5) The follow up appointment was another great conversation and I left feeling like I was a real part of my treatment plan.

I went to see Dr. Millstein for a meniscus tear that needed repair and had about as positive a surgical experience as one can hope for. I was back on my feet within a few days of the procedure, with minimal swelling and no pain. In short, a terrific outcome. Aside from being a great surgeon, Dr. Millstein is personable, caring, and runs a great office. They got me in for appointments with minimal wait time, were very accommodating regarding the surgical center where I needed (for insurance reasons) to schedule my procedure, and made sure that I had the necessary equipment for a quick and full recovery. I'd go back to Dr. Millstein without hesitation if I'm ever faced with anything like this again.

I am now 6 months post-operative meniscus repair of my knee with Dr. Millstein. As an RN with surgical orthopedic work experience, I think I can speak on the topic with some perspective. The quick summary: Dr. Millstein is not only an excellent surgeon, he's a trustworthy PERSON. His staff reflects his same commitment to the patient, and if you're his patient, you are listened to, he is generous with his time, and you will not be rushed. I am 62 and my knee hurt for two-plus years before I sought medical attention. I really expected him to tell me something like, "there's nothing wrong with your knee, so quit whining." But in fact, despite no history of prior trauma, my knee cartilage had literally come apart within my knee and needed arthroscopic repair. Within 48 hours after surgery with Dr. Millstein I no longer needed pain pills, I gave up the crutches, gave back the ice machine, and walked without pain for the first time in too long. Since then I have been able to resume hiking with my sons and my wife and all of that without pain. Having worked with scores of orthopedists whose attitudes toward their patients was, to say the least, highly variable, I can recommend Dr. Millstein with real enthusiasm. You Yelpers looking here for help deciding, lemme tell ya: look no further. :) Dr. M is your guy. -- M. L.

In short, Dr. Millstein is a FANTASTIC doctor. He's all you could ask for. For full details of my experience, read on: I called Dr. Millstein's office at the suggestion of a friend who is a physical therapist. The receptionist was able to give me an appointment six days later. I am 53 years old, an active athlete for most of my life, and in the last six months I had developed some severe unfamiliar knee pain. I was concerned that my symptoms might be from a torn meniscus (cartilage) in my right knee. I went to Dr. Millstein's office in Beverly Hills, filled out some forms and had two X-rays taken of my knee in the office as a baseline check. Next, Dr. Millstein came in and listened attentively to my history of the problem and what type of pain I was getting. He did a hands-on physical exam, manipulating my knee in the test positions that would be painful if I had a meniscus injury. From that exam and my history he concluded that I probably did not have a meniscus injury, and it was likely another kind of soft-tissue inflammation that was giving me pain. I was still worried and wanted to rule out the possibility of a meniscus injury, so Dr. Millstein was willing to prescribe an MRI scan to be 100% sure it was not a meniscus tear. This was what I was hoping for, because if I could be sure it was not a tear I could treat my knee with anti-inflammatory drugs and physical therapy. Dr. Millstein also consulted me on my drug history and what I had taken and what worked best for me. This was very considerate -- most doctors just say: "Take this pill." I got the MRI results and it showed that Dr. Millstein's in-office diagnosis was correct: my meniscus was intact. I have since then been able to resolve the pain 95% with the anti-inflammatory drugs he prescribed, ice, exercise and resting the knee. Let me tell you the three things that most impressed me about Dr. Millstein: 1) He's a very modern guy with state-of-the-art tools, procedures, and ideas about treatment. Every aspect of his practice is totally up to date. 2) He was a good listener and did not have the superior attitude you get from a lot of doctors; I felt he was interested in my problem and in figuring out how to deal with it. 3) He was happy to take the most conservative, low-impact course of treatment. Some doctors would have wanted to do "exploratory" surgery on my knee. Not Dr. Millstein. This was great news for me. Dr. Millstein only wanted to do what was needed to put my mind at ease, treat my knee pain, and no more. He was patient-focused and really showed great medical ethics. One of the principal ideas of medical ethics that all medical students are taught in medical school is that, "given an existing problem, it may be better not to do something, or even to do nothing, than to risk causing more harm than good." It reminds the physician and other health care providers that they must consider the possible harm that any intervention (surgery) might do. So I applaud Dr. Millstein for giving me restrained, minimal, successful treatment. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Loved Dr. Millstein! I needed meniscus surgery and had been referred to "all the best" of the other orthopods in BH and MDR. The others were such a chore to get an appointment with and had some pretty scary reviews of how their offices were run. While I was doing my research, Dr. Millstein's yelp review kept popping up. Could I find an orthopedic surgeon through Yelp I thought to myself? So I kept doing research, made a surgical consult appointment with one of the best, a MONTH away (other doc's very earliest available) and decided to look further into Dr. Millstein. I really liked what I read and decided to see Dr. M. Called and had an appointment three days later, had my consult & surgery completed before my appointment with that other doc even came around. So GLAD I went with Dr. M! My surgery was in the BH facility he uses and everyone at the surgery center was amazing. Dr. M. also does surgery in a MDR facility which I've heard is also wonderful but I had to go to BH for insurance coverage reasons. Most orthopods do surgery and have offices in two or three cities and most also work under the larger umbrella of a corporate group of surgeons. Dr. Millstein is a part of the D.I.S.C. Spine & Sports Center. Every one of Dr. Millstein's office staff is so nice and very helpful but I did have a couple of annoyances with hearing back from his assistant in a timely manner and once had a heck of a time getting someone to answer the phone. Both of these situations Dr. Millstein was aware of and assured me they are working on it. Nothing's perfect and no medical office gets it right all of the time and I will take my experience with Dr. Millstein any day. Waiting room experience was also excellent...ten minutes the first time and maybe 15 the next.

OUTSTANDING! Just had Dr. Millstein perform surgery on my torn meniscus. He was actually my 'second opinion' doctor and i found his explanation of the surgery and its ramifications to be thorough and understandable to me -- a frustrated old sports player. Prior to the surgery, Dr. Millstein literally showed me through the entire procedure -- with pictures! The surgery was painless and the healing process has been much more pleasant than the last three months trying to live with the torn meniscus while going through physical therapy. His bedside demeanor is very friendly and compassionate without being patronizing or obsequious.

Great doctor and great staff. His protocol is to have his staff take X-rays but since I was there for a minor issue i declined and the doctor had no problem with that.

Dr. Millstein is an excellent doctor and surgeon. He is very caring, friendly, attentive, and everything you need in a doctor who is about to perform surgery on your body. He took great care of me when I had to get shoulder surgery for my multiple dislocations. Now I am back to playing basketball with confidence in my shoulder. His staff is amazing too. I highly recommend Dr. Millstein if you have any injuries!

I visited Dr. Millstein after dealing with 2 months of moderate to severe pain in my knee. I am NOT one who runs to a doctor for every little thing, so you know I was suffering if I actually made a doctor appointment. Thankfully, it turned out that I didn't have any big injury to my knee. X-rays and an MRI came out great, and Dr. Millstein told me it would just get better on its own Thankfully, slowly and surely, it has been improving. But here is the one thing that made me want to write a review. My father is a retired orthopedic surgeon, and he was obviously concerned about my knee... and equally concerned that I was going to see some quack (literally, my father looked over all of Dr. Millstein's criteria before he let me go to him! :-) ). Which was fine, but my father also insisted that he actually speak to Dr. Millstein on the phone. I was kind of mortified to ask that.... I'm sure Dr. Millstein is a busy guy, and I hated the thought of saying to him, "Hi, I'm a 39 year old woman, but can you please call my Daddy on the phone?" Unbelievably, after I mentioned in passing that my father is a doctor, Dr. Millstein offered to call him WITHOUT ME HAVING TO ASK! His rationale was, "If my daughter was seeing some other doctor, I would want to talk to them!" So awesome that he was so perceptive and insightful! I hope I never have a reason to see him again, but I would highly recommend Dr. Millstein to anyone. I have already sent one friend to him, and I hope my review will help convince more people in need of a great orthopedic to check him out!

After having been misdiagnosed by three different doctors I spent two years in severe pain with limited mobility and acute tendonitis in my right arm. After describing my symptoms and an examination, Dr. Millstein immediately said I had a torn rotator cuff and ordered an MRI. His diagnosis was perfect, and then, rather than send me to surgery he suggested starting with a conservative approach using physical therapy for both the shoulder and a torn knee cartilage. I was not convinced that it would help, but even now, a year after having completed the therapy, the tendonitis is gone, I have almost full mobility in my arm and the knee problems are no longer bothering me. I cannot recommend Dr. Millstein highly enough, and truly appreciate the time he took to make a thorough and accurate assessment and his avoiding surgery unless absolutely necessary.

Today I received probably the worst news an athlete could have expected on a first visit - a potential Rotator Cuff tear (needs further diagnosis via MRI). The positive is I felt I was dealing with a total professional, nice, human who understood that, though in my 40's, I am still a competitive athlete who just wants to continue doing what I love. No lectures, no obvious impatience with my chosen lifestyle, etc. He introduced himself as Eric (i of couse said nice to meet you Dr....) and then walked me through what he saw at this point in my examination - explained on his iPad (yes the dude is tech savvy) how the rotator cuff is comprised, its function, and why I am feeling the pain I do. In the midst of all this potential bad news, I felt comforted, his staff was top notch, facilities clean etc... Yes I have an MRI to go - maybe surgery (maybe not!!!) but all I can say is if you are in the same boat I am, don't muck around, call his office, go see him - then make your decisions based on what you learn. Oh and though I saw him in Beverly Hills I was in and out in an hour... Lovely.

Wonderful doctor! Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, skilled, responsive, and respectful. Dr. Millstein operated on my torn meniscus. When discussing the problem and possible solutions, Dr. Millstein thoroughly answered all of my questions and encouraged me to get a second opinion. When I had a follow up question after my appointment, his clinic's on-call service was able to address my concern. When the time came for surgery (which Dr. Millstein was able to schedule promptly), Dr. Millstein was a pro. Afterwards, he showed me, through images, exactly what he had done. I was back on my feet very quickly. Highly recommended.

I was having a painful knee issue that came up rather suddenly, over a period of two or three months, and went to see Dr. Millstein based on some of these Yelp reviews. I had no idea what was going on and wanted someone to really delve into whatever the problem might be. I'm glad I did. His office was both very organized and compartmentalized to cover the x-ray/MRI needs and the examination rooms, and his staff was very gracious and helpful. I ended up having x-rays, which is standard for new patients, then Dr. Millstein came to talk with me in an exam room. He showed me the very clear x-ray images on a computer screen, then graciously told me he'd answer anything I had to ask and reminded me that that's what he was there for, which I found to be genuine and calm-inducing. He really did end up answering all my questions. The x-rays indicated that I have a case of runner's knee, a common condition, even though I've, interestingly enough, never been much of a runner. He then explained to me what that condition means and told me I'd need to get some orthotics for all my shoes and go for a few physical therapy sessions. Overall, I found Dr. Millstein to be a very friendly, knowledgeable practitioner and I'd recommend him to anyone who needed an orthopedist.

Dr Millstein is hands down the best doctor I've ever been to. His unique approach to sports medicine and Injuries is very refreshing. Will listen to every word you have to say and will always consider alternative options. Has sympathy for the pain his patients walk in with, which makes everybody feel at ease. Clean professional environment. I recommend Doc Millstein for anything from knees to ankles to shoulders to hips.

i have seen many orthopedists, and millstein is the best. very personable, professional manner. nice, convenient, state-of-the-art office with relaxed atmosphere and attentive staff. but most importantly, he is a top-notch surgeon. i won't go into the rigamarole i went through with other doctors before coming to millstein, but when i finally got to his practice, he diagnosed my torn acl correctly and reconstructed it- i've been playing tennis 4 times a week with zero instability.

I hurt my wrist on the pole and went on Yelp to find a doctor. Dr. Millstein is fantastic. I was a walk-in and they saw me within an hour of calling in! His office is clean, efficient and prompt. Dr. Millstein is warm, receptive and very helpful. After my x-rays, he explained what had happened to my wrist and what exercises I should do to strengthen to avoid further injuries. Seriously the best! Thank you Dr. Millstein!

My 11 year old son had been complaining about knee pain for a few weeks, and his pediatrician recommended an orthopedist we weren't happy with from a previous visit (we waited almost two hours to see him, while my son was in pain with a broken wrist). I needed to find a good doc, so I did what I always do... Checked in with Yelp! When I saw Dr. Millstein's listing I remembered him from two years ago when I had taken my daughter to his old office in century city, and at the time thought he was terrific! Very professional and very personable at the same time. I remember thinking, at that time, that I needed to remember his name, but alas, life gets hectic... Bottom line, I called and got an appointment for my son for a few days later. The office has you fill in paperwork at home (big time saver!) and when we got to his beautiful new office, we were taken in within about 5 - 10 minutes. The office staff were all very friendly, and seeing Dr. Millstein reminded me of why I was so happy on the first visit, years ago. He has a great personal manner and my son was immediately comfortable. The Dr. took his time in speaking with my son, learning the progression, and doing a complete physical exam. When he gave his diagnosis, he took out his new iPad to show my son an animated 3-D image of the knee and explained how the knee works and exactly why his was hurting. My son was very impressed and so was I. We are a very active family and have seen too many orthopedists here in L.A. Until now, I haven't been impressed by anyone like I am with Dr. Millstein. He clearly knows his craft very well! My son will be starting physical therapy next week, and we'll check in with Dr Millstein in a couple of weeks. It's good to know that my son's knees are in good hands, and Dr Millstein's number is now programmed into my phone!
