I am NOT one who runs to a doctor for every little thing, so you know I was suffering if I actually made a doctor appointment. > > Thankfully, it turned out that I didn't have any big injury to my knee. X-rays and an MRI came out great, and Dr. Millstein told me it would just get better on its own Thankfully, slowly and surely, it has been improving. > > But here is the one thing that made me want to write a review. My father is a retired orthopedic surgeon, and he was obviously concerned about my knee... and equally concerned that I was going to see some quack (literally, my father looked over all of Dr. Millstein's criteria before he let me go to him! :-) ). Which was fine, but my father also insisted that he actually speak to Dr. Millstein on the phone. I was kind of mortified to ask that.... I'm sure Dr. Millstein is a busy guy, and I hated the thought of saying to him, "Hi, I'm a 39 year old woman, but can you please call my Daddy on the phone?" Unbelievably, after I mentioned in passing that my father is a doctor, Dr. Millstein offered to call him WITHOUT ME HAVING TO ASK! His rationale was, "If my daughter was seeing some other doctor, I would want to talk to them!" Millstein, MD > After having been misdiagnosed by three different doctors I spent two years in severe pain with limited mobility and acute tendonitis in my right arm. After describing my symptoms and an examination, Dr. Millstein immediately said I had a torn rotator cuff and ordered an MRI. His diagnosis was perfect, and then, rather than send me to surgery he suggested starting with a conservative approach using physical therapy for both the shoulder and a torn knee cartilage. I was not convinced that it would help, but even now, a year after having completed the therapy, the tendonitis is gone, I have almost full mobility in my arm and the knee problems are no longer bothering me. > I cannot recommend Dr. Millstein highly enough, and truly appreciate the time he took to make a thorough and accurate assessment and his avoiding surgery unless absolutely necessary. The positive is I felt I was dealing with a total professional, nice, human who understood that, though in my 40's, I am still a competitive athlete who just wants to continue doing what I love. Millstein, MD > Wonderful doctor! Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, skilled, responsive, and respectful. Dr. Millstein operated on my torn meniscus. When discussing the problem and possible solutions, Dr. Millstein thoroughly answered all of my questions and encouraged me to get a second opinion. When I had a follow up question after my appointment, his clinic's on-call service was able to address my concern. When the time came for surgery (which Dr. Millstein was able to schedule promptly), Dr. Millstein was a pro. Afterwards, he showed me, through images, exactly what he had done. Millstein, MD > I was having a painful knee issue that came up rather suddenly, over a period of two or three months, and went to see Dr. Millstein based on some of these Yelp reviews. I had no idea what was going on and wanted someone to really delve into whatever the problem might be. I'm glad I did. His office was both very organized and compartmentalized to cover the x-ray/MRI needs and the examination rooms, and his staff was very gracious and helpful. I ended up having x-rays, which is standard for new patients, then Dr. Millstein came to talk with me in an exam room. He showed me the very clear x-ray images on a computer screen, then graciously told me he'd answer anything I had to ask and reminded me that that's what he was there for, which I found to be genuine and calm-inducing. He really did end up answering all my questions. The x-rays indicated that I have a case of runner's knee, a common condition, even though I've, interestingly enough, never been much of a runner. He then explained to me what that condition means and told me I'd need to get some orthotics for all my shoes and go for a few physical therapy sessions. Overall, I found Dr. Millstein to be a very friendly, knowledgeable practitioner and I'd recommend him to anyone who needed an orthopedist. B. L. Millstein, MD > My 11 year old son had been complaining about knee pain for a few weeks, and his pediatrician recommended an orthopedist we weren't happy with from a previous visit (we waited almost two hours to see him, while my son was in pain with a broken wrist). I needed to find a good doc, so I did what I always do... Checked in with Yelp! When I saw Dr. Millstein's listing I remembered him from two years ago when I had taken my daughter to his old office in century city, and at the time thought he was terrific! Very professional and very personable at the same time. I remember thinking, at that time, that I needed to remember his name, but alas, life gets hectic... Bottom line, I called and got an appointment for my son for a few days later. The office has you fill in paperwork at home (big time saver!) and when we got to his beautiful new office, we were taken in within about 5 - 10 minutes. The office staff were all very friendly, and seeing Dr. Millstein reminded me of why I was so happy on the first visit, years ago. He has a great personal manner and my son was immediately comfortable. The Dr. took his time in speaking with my son, learning the progression, and doing a complete physical exam. When he gave his diagnosis, he took out his new iPad to show my son an animated 3-D image of the knee and explained how the knee works and exactly why his was hurting. My son was very impressed and so was I. We are a very active family and have seen too many orthopedists here in L.A. Until now, I haven't been impressed by anyone like I am with Dr. Millstein. He clearly knows his craft very well! My son will be starting physical therapy next week, and we'll check in with Dr Millstein in a couple of weeks. It's good to know that my son's knees are in good hands, and Dr Millstein's number is now programmed into my phone! P. B. Millstein, MD > I would recommend Dr Millstein to EVERYBODY. I am a Krav Maga instructor and use my shoulder daily. My choice for a great doctor, was a must. When I dislocated my shoulder Dr. Millstein recommended multiple options prior to me having surgery. Dr. Millstein was very descriptive of the procedure, provided pictures of the surgery, explained the recovery period and honest time line to full recovery. > The operating room was top notch and made me feel comfortable. After surgery, Dr. Millstein personally called me the following day to make sure I was doing well. The follow up from suggesting a Physical Therapist, and checking up on me during the recovery was EXCEPTIONAL. One year later, I am doing muscle-ups, sparring, and hand stand push-ups. His facilities are state-of-the-art and flawlessly clean. Millstein, MD > This is the first time that I have written a review on Yelp. I was compelled to do so after receiving wonderful care from Dr. Millstein. I had a terrible experience with the first doctor I saw, Bert Mandelbaum, and asked family and friends for a new recommendation. My uncle (bless his soul) recommended Dr. MIllstein. My uncle had both knees replaced by Millstein and absolutely loved him. Side note: I later found out that my very good friend went to Millstein after a car accident badly damaged her knee and she raved about him. I called his office and had an appt within 3-4 days. I waited about 30 minutes, for which he apologized, but I told him it was not a problem after the 2+ hour wait I had with Mandelbaum. He noticed that I had a swollen bursa in my knee and gave me a cortisone shot. Problem solved. The pain dissipated and it never returned. I would recommend Dr. Millstein a million times over. He is smart, caring and great at what he does. He takes his time, displays compassion and figures out the problem. I went to a top knee specialist prior to Millstein, and he completely misdiagnosed me. I am so very glad that I got a second opinion. Millstein will be my first choice if I ever experience another knee issue. He is fabulous! Not only do I highly recommend him, but my good friend and and my uncle do as well. That, if it is a routine issue, is not fair to those of us with other commitments and obligations. Either schedule fewer patients or at least call patients to alert them to any significant delays.
