Dr. Millstein remembered me from 9 years ago too at his former practice, which was unexpected. His demeanor was professional and very personal too. This man lives in Whitefish Montana and I do not know his name. Dr. Bae was very helpful and fully described the work needed and the planned schedule and even offered suggestions for a place to stay nearby the hospital and his offices. All was well. > > Walked as much as possible, first on my deck then around a local lake. Now walk a mile easily but slowly and use either my Hurrycane or a walking stick. > > One issue I had was the inability to release urine. Several doctors said they thought this was not related to my nerve pinch in my back. I felt it was. He took the time to really talk to me about my options. My case is complicated because three different joints are affected. He specializes in knees (which both of mine need work) but my hip is critical! He asked did I have the time to see his partner, who is a hip specialist and one of the top Docs at Cedars. Even though the office was backed up due to the rain, he made sure I got new xrays so his partner could see me right then! Awesome, because the other CS hip specialist didn't have an opening until mid March. So now I am looking at getting my surgery with the next 4-5 weeks vs 4-5 months! YEAH!!! C. I came to Dr. Khurana in August with excruciating sciatica due to a severe herniation at L4L5 and moderate herniation at L5S1. I had had a previous microdiscectomy at those same levels almost 10 years prior which made things a little trickier, and the three surgeon opinions I got did not all agree on what to do with me. > > Dr. Khurana spent probably almost an hour with me in-office, and then another 30-45 minutes with me on the phone talking me through my options and what he would recommend if it were him or a family member going through the situation. Never once did he tell me I should see HIM for the procedure, only what he thought would be the smartest and safest course of action for me. In the last four months, he performed two surgeries on me: a hip replacement surgery on my right side, and arthroscopic surgery of my right knee. I've thus been through something of an ordeal: pre-surgery, surgery, post-op, in-home physical therapy, outpatient PT. Through it all, Dr. Garabekyan was a consummate professional, the best of the best, a veritable magician with the scalpel: minimizing scars and getting me back on my feet post haste. I now walk pain-free and glitch-free. Every time I walk, I am consciously grateful for the very fact that I'm walking. My gratitude extends gushingly to Dr. Garabekyan and his staff. He took the time to answer patiently my every question, and he allayed my qualms about the procedures, and his keen judgment gave me the confidence to go forward. I made the decision to drive all the way from the western-most part of LA Country to his office in Beverly Hill, even though LA traffic can back up and make like miserable. But it was worth it. I feel I had the best medical care in all of Los Angeles. Dr. Garabekyan spent as much time explaining things as needed, and his bedside manner exudes and inspires confidence. His follow-up care was superb. In a minute, I'd pick him to perform surgery on one of my joints gone bad. He's business-like but also affable and warm. I would recommend him to anyone on a dime! J. Millstein, MD > I just celebrated my one year post op from a major C1 - T2 fusion. My review almost a year ago is still on Yelp. My life has changed radically because I went in knowing that I made the decision to lose mobility to save my quality of life. Having wished for death from the pain I was having, I look back and know I made the right choice. Dr. Bae has walked along side me during this year. He has always been a straight shooter, (and I think some people might struggle with that kind of upfront honesty), but I find it refreshing. He never promised my life would be cake walk, but he said that regarding my pain, I would be at least 85% better. I'd say it's better than that. When I first had my surgery, he thought I would have tremendous pain post op. I had none. The only difficulty has been getting used to not moving my head like I did. But honestly, those who know me would tell you I used to lay in bed all the time I wasn't working not being able to face another day. I will take this life instead. Next month I am starting to deal with my low back, as I have put that off for a long time. There is no one else I would trust with my care. I find Dr. Bae to be the most intelligent and sharp surgeon I've ever met, and I have met many. I continue to find his diagnostic skills second to none. I find him to be caring, funny, and personable. I offered my phone number to him for anyone who had to have a very serious surgery like mine so that they could speak with me directly. I still offer that. I am a very busy person, and I continue to fulfill my role as a college professor in as effective a manner as I ever had at the age of 61. I owe that to Dr. Bae for giving me my life back. One year later and still raving about this man!!! Finally, his staff rock. They are all kind and helpful, and I have pestered them enough to where they could have been annoyed. They answer every question and are also kind and patient. What a blessing to have found Dr. Bae. I've been to 3 different "experts" & no one would write a Rx for me to go in for MRIs...even though nothing else was working: epidurals, cortisone, meds. As a prior gymnast & dancer, I know my body & I know when I started losing the feeling down my hands & then my fingers started to get freezing cold, the problem was a lot more serious than the doctor I was seeing was seeing. I finally demanded he write ard for MRIs on both shoulders & my cervical spine & through some research was referred to Dr. Khurana - who, after taking one look at all my tests, reports, etc. said I needed emergency surgery or I'd end up with permanent nerve damage. Dr Khurana is professional and articulate and made the process of spine surgery as positive of an experience as it could possibly be.
