> Great doctor who I will recommend to anyone with neck issues. His staff is top of the line and help you easily coordinate appointments, MRI’s etc…  Dr. Khurana was very professional, took his time to explain things and went above and beyond to help me with my neck problem . knowledgeable about their work. I was very worry because my age 59 and  It has been 9 weeks since my surgery and have had zero pain .I will never be able to thank him and his staff enough.I feel great. . I had my surgery done in Marina Del Rey at Diagnostic And Interventional Surgical Center which I will say was probably the best experience ever after having surgery.

> I had a 10 in lower back pain and tried so many different things without any relief. My physician recommended Dr. Sanjay K. Khurana as the best there is and assured me he would be the one to get me out of my misery. I’m so glad that I finally decided to have Microdisectomy surgery for right L4-5 L. The entire experience was made seamless by his team, especially in the time of Covid.
>
> I went in for surgery early morning and walked out the same day with zero back pain.
>
> Thank you Sanjay for taking such good care of me. I’m eternally grateful.

> Dr. Leonel corrected a very painful neck surgery that almost left me paralyzed. He was also able to discern that I was traumatized and needed help with this and made my primary aware of it. He is a very talented and highly professional and qualified surgeon. Especially using technology to explain MRIs, scans, and x-rays in consultation with a patient. He's very understanding with authorizing time off of work and helping with disability benefits. He's very cautious and warns you sternly about postoperative care. I really like the way he dresses and his style because after all he is a Beverly Hills doctor. His staff and office environment is very calming and organized. I highly recommend this doctor and Cedars Sinai Hospital.

> Dr. Bhalla is a wonderful spine specialist! It was a big decision to have back surgery but I had lost the ability to carry on many normal activities in my daily life, and I was living with horrible pain. He not only addressed all of my concerns and fears, but he accomplished the surgery with amazing expertise! He has a very caring and calm demeanor, and I couldn't be happier with my results! I have never experienced that horrible pain since my surgery -- even in the early days of my recovery. I would recommend Dr. Bhalla to anybody in need of spine excellent care! He's the BEST!!

> My spinal stenosis is severe, but I just wasn't ready for a back surgery so soon after having both hips replaced. Dr. Bhalla and I proceeded with the less invasive Spinal/Epidural which unfortunately, did not give me the improvement I was looking for. When, and only when I was ready, did we proceed with a Laminectomy and Diskecotomy. I am exactly 1 week past surgery and the future looks bright! So glad to be in such good hands. Will report back after all healing is done...Five Gold Stars from me!!!

> I have been dealing with spinal issues since 2009 and thanks to the wonderful expertise of Dr Khurana, it has been a lot more manageable. I had a microdisectomy on my L4-5 region in 2012 & most recently (July 2020), cervical ADR 3/4. Both times I felt instant relief and very minimal post surgical pain. Thanks to him, have been able to live a quality life with minimal disruption. A brilliant surgeon and an equally caring/kind gentleman, I will always be forever grateful for his compassionate care he has given me from the very beginning

> I chose Dr. Khurana from three other neck surgeons on my research list. I’m so happy I did! I’m one week post cervical fusion and disc replacement surgery and I can feel the difference already. His personality and kindness of time to explain the surgery and answer all my questions allowed me to make my decision and go into surgery with no fear or anxiety. His staff is amazing and on point and the surgery center nurses and anesthesiologists were 1st class. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the greatest. He’s a 10! Thank you so much and I look forward to my post surgery follow up to Thank him again personally.
>
> Update:
> I had my three month post op w/ Dr. Khurana. 🙏🏼🙌 PT is going great and I finally feel like I’m on the road to getting my pain free life back. Thank you!!!

> I recently had spine surgery with Dr. Khurana. I had L5 fusion. My experience is so very positive. I have the utmost trust in Dr. Khurana's diagnostic and surgery skills. I was referred to him by a doctor who had back surgery himself with Dr. Khurana. I interviewed many spine surgeons before making my decision to have Dr. Khurana treat my spinal issues. So glad I did. He is an outstanding surgeon and a caring doctor. I highly recommend him. Thank you, Dr. Khurana

> I never followed up my review with an update, so here it is. I healed up great! The doc said I'd have 90% of what I had before, I actually think it's closer to 97%. There's a bit of pain if I really push my movement to the outer limits, like reaching way past overhead to the far left, but I have to try really hard to feel any pain. Super happy with the surgery. Here's a couple of tips for anyone that goes through this:
>
> 1. Follow aftercare instruction to a T. Be extra conservative.
>
> 2. Use the ice machine in your shoulder as often as recommended.
>
> 3. Try to wean off any pain medication ASAP so you don't get hooked on it. I was done in 3 days but kept taking the Toradol.
>
> 4. Expect to take a year or maybe a bit longer to be totally healed. Even then there may be some pain for awhile. This is NORMAL. Even a couple years is no big deal when you consider the pain you were in before surgery.
>
> Ok. Those are my tips. One more thing.
>
> When in his office he took an MRI of my left shoulder, even though he worked on the right. He said my acromion was getting long and going to likely start causing me pain. Well guess what? He was correct. I just had an MRI and will send him the results. I've been in pain for a few months and most recently I've experienced tingling in my left shoulder. Neck has been hurting too for around 8 months. So... I'll keep you posted. James :-)

> Dr. Khurana communicated very well and laid out surgical treatment option. I’d done physical therapy with out improvement, and he evaluated my MRI and x-rays with a expert’s eye.
>
> My critical issues were degenerative spondylolisthesis and stenosis that together had come to make walking more than a couple hundred feet difficult with dangerous potential for a bad fall.
>
> Dr. Khurana explained his surgical approach and I knew I’d found the right surgeon. As he explained, he’s a spine specialist; that’s “all” he does. He uses a minimally invasive approach that makes the surgery much less traumatic for his patients (but probably more technically challenging for the surgeon). I’d been scared of front and back access approaches I’d read about that involved extensive dissection, so I was greatly relieved.
>
> In my case, I had minimal post-operative pain, (just used cold packs a few times) and one week post-op I’m walking well (with a walker for safety for a few more days) and a back brace to remind me not to Bend, Lift or Twist.
>
> I’m very happy with results so far!

> If you need back surgery, you cannot find a better surgeon than Dr. Bae!!
>
> My diagnosis was spinal stenosis. My symptoms were pain in my right hip and leg, plus muscle weakness. I am 78 years old and was nervous about back surgery, so I opted for steroid injections in my back, and this reduced the pain for a couple of months, but did nothing to help the weakness.
>
> Then, four months ago, I had been sitting on my couch and as I went to stand up, I leaned over to one side and must have twisted my back, when suddenly I was in immense pain and was unable to move my right foot! I went to the emergency room and had an MRI and was told I needed surgery! This is when I called Dr. Bae's office and was told to send my MRI disc and was given an immediate appointment after talking to Dr. Bae's assistant. I saw Dr. Bae on Friday, and watched him review my MRI - his comment was "wow, you need to have surgery, and we can do it on Tuesday!" I was sent nearby for an immediate second MRI and giveen my pre-op instructions for checking in to St. John's that Tuesday.
>
> I walked out the next morning with no pain. My leg weakness is steadily getting better with therapy and I was able to return to playing badminton in 2 months!
>
> Dr. Bae has literally saved my way of life. I could not walk without a walker when I had my surgery. Now I am walking my Border Collie and playing badminton!

> Dr, Bae changed my life!!!!! After seeing several outstanding back surgeons across the country, I chose Dr. Bae for my decompression back surgery after he explained in detail all of my options. On my first appointment I was using a walker and in severe pain...for over 6 months. I was nervous to have back surgery but he gave me confidence it would all be successful...and it was! The day after surgery I was walking normally and pain free. Its now been three months and trusting Dr. Bae was the best decision I've ever made. This 70yr old grandma now feels like she's 40 again.

> Hello to my fellow back pain sufferers. At 60 I have had all types of joint pain over the years, knee operations, rotator cuff tears etc, but nothing is worse than back pain which I felt severely limited my quality of life. After 5 years of severe back pain, acupuncture treatments, chiroprator visits, physical therapy and stretching exercizes, and 4 spine specialists (2 told me I needed back surgery, 2 told me surgery could make my back worse!) I finally came to know Dr. Khurana through a friend my age with simimar back issues who sang his praises. Long story short, Dr. Khurana is something of a miracle worker if you ask me. Had my surgery 8 months ago and after a few weeks of post surgery discomfort my back has been virtually pain free. No more frantically looking around for a chair when in a conversation, now I walk the Topanga hills of the SM mountains for exercize, no problem. Back pain is no joke, if you tried and tried to do things to alleviate the pain but nothing is really working...do yourself a favor and go see Dr. Khurana. If you elect to have surgery, ask to go to Docs hospital by San Vicente and Fairfax, a doctor owned facility which is a far sight better than one of those huge hospitals.

> - Visited Dr Hunt for 2nd opinion after another ( top, top rated spine doctor) recommended surgery for a herniated disc L3-L4.
> - Dr. Hunt reviewed the MRI and examined me and told me there was nothing wrong with my disc. The pain I was having was from my Sacroiliac joint and PT was all I needed. No surgery.
> - I'm writing this review 3 months after finishing PT; my pain issue has been successfully addressed.
> ** When I visited Dr.Hunt he took the time and explained very carefully what exactly was going on with me and answered all of my questions. He is a very confident and competent doctor. He is my guy going forward.

> I suffered from severe back pain for about 20 years due to a high grade spondylolisthesis. I finally went to Dr Bae who recommended lower back fusion. It was a complex surgery and a complete success. I have not had any pain since the operation over three years ago. It is important to know that it lasts! Everything about the process was very supportive and such high quality care. Dr Bae is an excellent surgeon and very kind and patient. I call him the miracle worker. He changed my life! I will always be very grateful to him.

> Dr. Kamrava examined me for excruciating pain in the back and neck. He sent for an MRI and as he has diagnosed I had a C6/C7 injury. He recommended an epidural to ease the pain and bring down the inflammation in the spinal cord and nerves. I was a bit apprehensive as I had never done one before. I decided to go with no sedation. I barely even felt anything.
> He is a very sweet and professional doctor.

My surgery went smoothly as did my recovery all thanks to his great skill. A year ago, I couldn't walk a block without stopping from the pain I was in and now I can walk a full mile without any pain. > Thank you to Dr. Bhalla and the wonderful nursing and surgery teams at LB Memorial Care!
> I was in a lot of pain from herniated cervical discs going on several months. Rest, meds, PT was not improving so when I got my MRI and then an ortho surgery consult, I knew my situation was steadily getting worse and I was barely managing my day to day activities. However I'm pretty conservative with surgery as an option. Previous issues with carpal tunnel like symptoms had 2 hand surgeons wanting to cut me open with little discussion on why or how or preventative care or alternative options. So I'm a skeptic and firmly believe in researching and educating myself on not only the medical condition but also the practitioner treating me. What gave me no doubt to trust Dr. Bhalla beyond his credentials and extensive papers and research contributions was his ability to genuinely connect and convey trust. I've never met a surgeon who wasn't so talented and confident that it comes across as arrogant and that typically makes me distrust them. Not a great way to start a relationship where your way of life is literally in their hands.
> Dr. Bhalla was succinct but sincere and thorough with my endless questions of what when why how and what ifs. I think I even asked the same question in 3 different ways on 2 separate visits. The surgery went well along with my immediate and ongoing recovery so far. Pain free right after surgery and so grateful to have a great quality of life again. I've always told my own clients to never proceed with surgery or a doctor's treatment unless you completely trust them and the team and I followed my own advice here. Dr. Bhalla is an incredible doctor and surgeon, go to the consult and you'll see for yourself.

> I am grateful for having my life saved. The Doctors who really were responsible for getting me to Dr. McKenna, the surgeon, were Dr. Hyun Bae, my spine surgeon, who noticed my bumpy painful fingers on my right hand. He sent me to Dr. Susko - rheumatologist, who insisted on me having a lung CT scan where cancer was found. He sent me directly to Dr. Markovitz Pulmonary specialist who called Dr. McKenna for me to operate on my lung. Dr. McKenna then saved my life removing my lung cancer and I was released 4 days after the event. I am cancer free and so very grateful for the best doctors anywhere!

> Dr. Bae saved my dear friend's life. Literally. After a very successful back surgery, she recently had a follow-up exam. A lump he observed in a joint in her finger prompted him to ask her a seemingly odd question, "Did you smoke when you were young?" She admitted she had. His suspicion piqued, he sent her to a rheumatologist, who ordered a CT Scan -- which revealed a small irregularity in her lung. Needle biopsy confirmed cancer. Surgery got it all, and further testing confirmed it had been caught at Stage 1. What Dr. Bae did for my friend SAVED HER LIFE, and is nothing short of a miracle.

> I located Dr Bae's name during a visit with a man in a shop near Las Cruces NM. His wife had been to see Dr Bae and recommended him. This man lives in Whitefish Montana and I do not know his name. Wish I did so I could thank him.
>
> We drove to Santa Monica June 3 and met with the staff of The Spine Institute and came away very impressed and are scheduling my surgery for June 18. Dr. Bae was very helpful and fully described the work needed and the planned schedule and even offered suggestions for a place to stay nearby the hospital and his offices. I look forward to this operation.
>
> We arrived June 17, checked int Ambrose Hotel and the operation went as planned at St Johns. Was in hospital 2 days due to slight complication during procedure. Stayed in hotel nearby until June 24 when we met with Dr Bae and Dr Cano and were cleared to return home. Drove back to SF Bay Area.
>
> Stopped using Oxycodone after leaving Santa Monica and then Tylenol within a week and then only one Tylenol at bedtime. Numbness in lower body is nearly gone but comes and goes as expected.
>
> Local home nurse and PT were set up through The Spine Institute and they are headquartered here in Orinda. All visiting assistance has been wonderful.
>
> My wife was a wonderful nurse and recovery placed a lot of work on her that I had shared so it must be a team effort when serious operations such as back repair are considered.
>
> I had a Foley in use for 3 weeks and a complication occurred in that I went into septic shock and was hospitalized for a few days at John Muir in Walnut Creek. At first it was thought my back incision was infected so focus for 2 days was on that possibility, but it turned out I had an extreme bladder infection from the Foley.
>
> I setup a local doctor to perform the 6 weeks review in order to save another trip to LA and that was OK with Drs Cano and Bae. All was well.
>
> Walked as much as possible, first on my deck then around a local lake. Now walk a mile easily but slowly and use either my Hurrycane or a walking stick.
>
> One issue I had was the inability to release urine. Several doctors said they thought this was not related to my nerve pinch in my back. I felt it was. Turns out we were both right since after use of Flomax and the operation and after 3 months working with a local urologist I am back to normal.
>
> It has been 3-1/2 months now and slowly my legs are regaining sensitivity. It seems slow but with PT my balance and strength are improving.
>
> I feel the effort to work with The Spine Institute in Santa Monica was well worth the extra effort required.

> Hands down some of the best medical care I have ever received.
>
> I've had back problems for almost 13 years, and I've seen dozens of the top specialists and surgeons in the Los Angeles area throughout the years. I came to Dr. Khurana in August with excruciating sciatica due to a severe herniation at L4L5 and moderate herniation at L5S1. I had had a previous microdiscectomy at those same levels almost 10 years prior which made things a little trickier, and the three surgeon opinions I got did not all agree on what to do with me.
>
> Dr. Khurana spent probably almost an hour with me in-office, and then another 30-45 minutes with me on the phone talking me through my options and what he would recommend if it were him or a family member going through the situation. Never once did he tell me I should see HIM for the procedure, only what he thought would be the smartest and safest course of action for me. Ultimately, I ended up scheduling a repeat microdiscectomy with him and am so happy with my decision.
>
> His office is easy to get ahold of, he is consistently on-time (even early!), and made the surgery scheduling process absolutely seamless. Dr. Khurana's PA, Elaine, could not possibly be more knowledgable or helpful. They've both been incredibly accessible to me both before and after surgery, answering all 1000+ of my questions thoroughly.
>
> Dr. Khurana does his surgeries at DISC, which felt like I was getting royal treatment compared to the two surgeries I've had at Cedars Sinai hospital. From my nurses to my anesthesiologist, I felt like both the facilities and the team Dr. Khurana uses were the absolute best.
