> Dr. Bhalla is great! I've had back issues and intermittent pain throughout my adult years. Whenever it got intolerable I resorted to acupuncture and/or chiropractic care and on a few occasions epidurals. Someone cutting on my back was not anything I was receptive to. When sciatic episodes became more frequent and longer lasting and I was forced to postpone scheduled knee replacement surgery I reluctantly decided to again consult an orthopedic surgeon.
>
> After initial consultation, x-rays and MRI I had follow up appointment with Dr. Bhalla to discuss options. He recommended surgery. Still reluctant to go that route I opted for another try with an epidural, but to to no avail. Back to Dr. Bhalla who told me the problems were going to continue to get worse so at age 73 I finally agreed to surgery.
>
> Lower lumber fusion surgery was performed at Long Beach Memorial Hospital by Dr. Bhalla and Dr. Rao (vascular surgeon). Anterior Lumber Interbody Fusion (ALIF) and laminectomy surgeries were performed on Monday and Thursday of the same week. The week in the hospital (overall very good care and treatment) and first 2 weeks at home I experienced moderate pain and discomfort but nothing intolerable. After 2 weeks of light rehab at home I started physical therapy program. After several weeks of PT my back felt really good. It has been nearly one year since the surgery and other than minimal discomfort during the initial recovery period I have experienced no back pain!
>
> From the initial consultation through the post-op visits Dr. Bhalla thoroughly explained all the options, the details of the surgical procedure, the recovery and rehabilitation process and patiently answered all my questions. Dr. Bhalla is a compassionate and highly skilled physician and surgeon! And, kudos to his very competent and kind office staff. While back surgery is a last resort, if there is no other viable way to address your pain and problems Dr. Bhalla is the surgeon for you.

> I unfortunately had a series of lumbar procedures with the last two being very problematic. I was referred to Dr Brandon Ortega by my primary physician. It was the luckiest day I’ve had with regards to my lumbar issues. Dr Ortega performed a combination anterior and posterior lumbar fusion with vascular surgeon Wang Teng and the results of their collaboration have been amazing. Dr Ortega is knowledgeable professional and top tier in his field as my results confirm. His dedication to his patients is sincere, there’s an impressive authenticity to his commitment to his patients. Always patient and available for questions and always concise and accurate with his answers. His skill and integrity will allay any anxieties a patient may be experiencing. You will be assured that his driving focus is the the patient’s best resolution to their condition. I recommend him to anyone that requires help with orthopedic issues. You will be impressed and sure that you have made the best decision in your health care journey.

> Dr Sanjay Khurana is an amazing spine surgeon. He did my lower lumbar spinal fusion surgery 7 weeks ago and I am very happy with the results. It has been a true pleasure having Dr Khurana as my surgeon. He is so talented, kind, smart, and professional. A real class act!
>
> UPDATE:
> Just recently on August 14 of 2025, it was one year since my back surgery with Dr. Khurana. I feel amazing! I’ve been going on 7 mile hikes with steep inclines in the mountains for the last three months. With no discomfort or pain whatsoever. I’m training and working out like I always did. Every day I’m grateful for how successful this surgery has been for me. And that’s why I came on here to add to my review. I followed all my preop and postop protocol precisely. I do eat super healthy and I know that helped my body heal well. I also started walking regularly as soon as I could following my surgery.
> I’m forever grateful to Dr. Khurana. He literally changed my life! I’m so happy! 🙏🏼

> I met Dr Ortega a little over a year ago on my first appointment and afterwards I went down to my car and cried. Finally, I had hope that I could get my life back! I was so grateful that finally I was referred to a doctor that knew and understood everything I have been experiencing since 2017. Dr Ortega was very thorough in explaining the Cervical Radiculopathy ACDF procedure. I wanted to wait a year before writing this review and I have to tell you that it’s so wonderful to be able to sleep and to wake up and not have the constant pain and weakness in my neck and on my right arm and shoulder. The surgery and care afterwards was exceptional without any problems. Physical therapy in the same office was better than I have experienced elsewhere. They helped me get my strength back with stretches and exercises to maintain the muscle strength. Thank you Dr Ortega for truly giving me back my life!

> Dr Ortega was the best spine surgeon i have ever had the privilege to meet. Thanks to him and his team, I am a walking miracle. I had used a walker for 10 yrs due to a previous failed spinal fusion and with a bent metal rod protruding from my back. Dr Ortega and his team did reconstructive surgery on my entire spine and thanks to him I am walking without a walker and rarely using a cane. I am fully active and even go to the gym 2-3 times a week. I travel, go on walks, workout and am told I look 20 yrs younger! Im 79 and just getting started! Thank you Dr Ortega from the bottom of my heart!!! May GOD bless you for giving me a new life!!!

> My experience with Dr. Bae, and his staff has been nothing short of miraculous. The amount of pain I was in before my procedure was relentless, exhausting, and unlivable. Fusion of my entire cervical spine had been suggested by two Arizona prominent orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Bae replaced two disc in my neck and the change was noticeable immediately. When I woke from the anesthesia the first thing I noticed was no pain in my shoulder, arm, or hand. It was all gone. LThe only slight discomfort I had was from the surgical procedure itself, and with two Tylenol a day for a week I felt very little. I'm 63, and this was my first surgical procedure. I was very fortunate to find Dr. Bae and his staff.

> Dr. Brandon Ortega, my Orthopedic Surgeon, whom I love and respect, is a shining example of compassion and precision. In my entire life, I have never met a Doctor so genuinely caring and meticulous. He was a divine blessing in my life. In 2023, he performed a Lumbar fusion decompression on my spine. He performed an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) on my neck on 5-12-25, and I'm looking forward to feeling much better again.🙌
> On 5-12-25, my surgery was a resounding success, he repaired the disc in my neck, and I'm now embarking on a transformative journey of healing, strength, growth, and freedom from pain!!!🦋
> I'm ecstatic to share that Dr. Ortega has done it again, surrounded by his exceptional staff in a radiant healing atmosphere filled with light and professionalism! As I closed my eyes, I was serenaded by "Everything is going to be alright"! And that was uplifting vibrations. Again, thank you, Dr. Ortega, you're a blessing to the world!

> I was suffering terribly with neck pain for years and my last resort option was surgery. Prior to going to Dr. Bae my option was fusion of the discs in my neck that would limit my neck movement. Dr Bae offered another option that would give me complete mobility in my next that would not involve fusion. He spent a lot of time with me explaining the procedure and its previous successes. His staff was amazing as well. I am so happy with the results; no more pain or debilitating migraines and I now have complete flexibility of movement in my neck. Dr Bae has been a godsend and I would highly recommend him to anyone who is suffering from spinal issues.

> I received some pretty upsetting news about my back. I was told I would need a spinal fusion in the future. I was devastated, and immediately started researching alternatives. I learned about disc replacement and researched the top 36 doctors who perform this operation (in the US).
> After researching, I chose Dr. Bae to consult with - he had innovated in the area of disc replacement, his satisfaction rate was thru the roof, and he seemed very understated in his interview.
> I set up a consult and he was exactly as I expected! Confident, but not ego-forward. He told me I would be a great candidate for disc replacement, but that I didn't need one. He told me it was way overkill and gave me some ideas and suggestions for treatment if my back started really giving me problems. He also told me I was welcome to visit him at his practice anytime.
> He could have 'sold' me on surgery - but he didn't. If I ever do need any surgery or treatment in the future, I will definitely be back! Thank you, Dr. Bae!

> Amandeep Bhalla is a highly skilled and caring man. Bhalla’s team performed a 360 spinal fusion, installing hardware to correct my scoliosis and stenosis. He said my surgery was challenging as he found and removed numerous synovial cysts within my spinal column. He did not nick or damage my dura, which must have been quite an impressive feat. My surgery took almost 7 hours; recovery has been slow, sometimes halting, but I’ve steadily improved. I would recommend to anyone who has spine surgery to be patient with their recovery, and to seek out aquatic physical therapy, then progress slowly to water aerobics in a shallow pool.

> I have to preface my comments about my experience with Dr. Khurana and his staff with the fact that I have never been a fan of allopathic medicine, doctors and especially surgeons would be a massive understatement. Almost every friend and family member that's ever had to have surgery, especially back surgery has only come out worse for the wear. Or having to go back multiple times and never recovering partially or fully.
> I was referred by my primary care physician who could not stop raving about Dr. Khurana as he had fixed one of those bad surgeries I mentioned. Needless to say I was not excited but the pain I was experiencing with my degenerative disc disease, osteoporosis and bulging discs was having a tremendous effect on my mental well-being and ability to do the simplest tasks. Just say I was depressed would've been an understatement.
> Even though the spinal fusion surgery on my L4 L5 disc's was due before the Covid pandemic hit I was forced to wait three years for my surgery. He advised me if I woke up paralyzed I should call immediately. It was a long three years and not because of the pandemic itself. Possible paralysis can be horrifying consideration.
> Because I was a Medicare patient I had the surgery performed at St. John's hospital.
> I happen to have a strange condition where I am highly resistant to anesthesia and have woken up twice during minor surgeries and although by now I was completely unafraid of the surgery itself because I knew I was in such good hands (I had three years to do a lot of research on Dr. Khurana) but the anesthesia situation was still terrifying. I knew the surgery would be longer and more complicated than originally planned but the anesthesiologist completely understood my legitimate concern.
> To be totally honest I don't remember a thing after getting to the hospital after prepping myself early that morning. And afterwards there was much less pain than I expected and after a year and a half I'm happy to report after getting fresh imaging and consulting with Dr. Khurana last week found out that the surgery was a complete success.
> I've spoken to surgeons in the past, For myself and as support for friends and family and I have never ever met a surgeon as warm and genuinely caring as this wonderful man. On top of that he also has the patience of a saint. I am not an easy patient, I am well aware of that. But no matter how many phone calls I made and my endless questions and concerns everyone from reception to his medical assistant always treated me with kindness and compassion, like a human being and not just a patient or a file number.
> After the summer I will be going back to have the screws taken out of my back since the bone grafting was so successful and this time they will be no fear involved whatsoever.
> It's been five years since we started our journey. It's not over yet and hopefully my DDD will not require any future surgeries. But should I ever need another you can trust I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to his office again.
> I'm grateful that he is so much younger than me and hope he never leaves the Los Angeles area.
> Anyone who has the opportunity to have this extraordinarily gifted and compassionate surgeon perform a procedure on them they are incredibly blessed.
> I am so grateful he did not decide to become a car mechanic with those gifted hands and golden heart.

> Once upon a time, in the not-so-fairy-tale land of Chronic Painville, lived an adventurous soul (that's me!), who, following an automotive misadventure that would make even a stunt driver wince, ended up with a neck and back more twisted than a mystery novel plot - think C6/7 and L5/S1 playing the lead villains in this spine-tingling saga. Picture this: a disc replacement at C-6 and 7 became my immediate quest, as I was in such excruciating pain that moving my neck felt like I was auditioning for the role of a non-flexible robot.
>
> Now, disc replacement surgery at the time was the new kid on the block in the US, strutting down the medical runway with its shiny new potential. Lumbar spine, though? Not so much on the VIP list yet. And fusion? Oh, I'd heard the tales of woe and stiffness - a motley crew of friends still in agony or moving like vintage robots post-fusion had me saying, "Thanks, but no thanks."
>
> So, there I was, waiting in the wings, pain as my constant companion, for years, dreaming of the day when lumbar disc replacement would hit the mainstream. And let me tell you, the idea of doctors rummaging around the front of my torso gave me the heebie-jeebies - like, serious "Are you sure you don't need a map?" vibes.
>
> But then, as the pain crescendoed to a level of unbearable that had me contemplating a career as a human pretzel, I embarked on a quest to find the Merlin of spine surgery. Enter Dr. Khurana - a wizard, a magician, a veritable rock star of the OR. Initially, he was like, "Hmm, your disc has left the building, and we're talking bone-on-bone - wanna see the MRI to prove it? Might have to go the fusion route, but let's give it a whirl."
>
> D-Day arrived, and guess what? Dr. Khurana pulled off the impossible with the panache of a maestro conducting a symphony - no fusion, just pure, unadulterated surgical genius. His team? Angels in scrubs, each more caring and considerate than the last. And Dr. Khurana? A man so passionate about his craft, he could probably perform surgery with his eyes closed (not that he did, mind you - just saying, he's that good).
>
> Sure, a year later and I'm still on nodding terms with some residual pain, but it's nothing - a mere whisper compared to the cacophony of agony I endured for years. So here's to Dr. Khurana and his crew - the rock stars of the medical world, who gave me back a semblance of normalcy and taught me that, sometimes, the best fairy tales don't involve princes or dragons, but gifted surgeons with the power to change lives.

> Dr Khurana did an amazing job with my XLIF fusion on L4-5. I am at least 1/2 taller.and feels like I have a new back! The fusion is probably solid after only 3 & 1/2 months from surgery. I don't really need PT anymore, can bend without pain and I'm good to go with all activities...yoga, tennis, etc. I highly recommend Dr Khurana to anyone needing back surgery.

> Without question the most capable, professional and caring neurosurgeon a patient could ever hope for. I had my first surgery with him, a cervical fusion, in 2005, followed by a second one, a lumbar fusion in 2010. Going from truly unbearable pain which in both cases went on for months, following my procedures I woke up nearly 100% cured; an absolute miracle of relief. It's been 13 years since my last surgery, and my congenital issues have again reared their ugly heads. I flew from Portland, Maine last week to see him and was once again comforted entirely by his extraordinary kindness and understanding, his bedside manner exceptional as always, and I'm planning my next fusion one level up.
>
> Beginning with his office staff, Nancy And everyone else with whom I've had the pleasure of dealing, Dr. Khurana's practice practice is second to none. I literally trust him (and his exceptional office support ) with my life.
>
> Make an appointment and be prepared to wait a bit sometimes, but be confident in knowing that when it's your turn he will give you all the time in the world. There could truly be no more outstanding, talented, informative, personable surgeon, and I feel so fortunate to have found him. 💙
