If you want the best spin surgeon, you go to Dr. Khurana. He truly cares about wanting to fix any issue you have with your spine. I had L3-4 to L5-S1 fused back in 2001 by another well-known surgeon in Los Angeles and ended up having to fuse L1-2 to L2-3 in September 2020 and disk replacement (ADR) at C5-6, C6-7 in December 2020 by Dr. Khurana. The difference was night and day. Not only was Dr. Khurana's technique different but my recovery time was so much easier. He always made himself available to answer any questions and always checked-up on me post-surgery. I am extremely happy the my post-surgery results and recommend Dr. Khurana highly. His staff is exceptional and I cannot thank Amanda and Elaine enough for their time and devotion with helping me through the process. I'm truly Thankful for having Dr. Khurana as my doctor. He has changed my life for the best!!!

I had a fusion surgery with Dr. Khurana and I cannot speak more highly about him or his entire team. Dr. Khurana not only has exceptional clinical reasoning and surgical skills, but he has a phenomenal bed side manner. He is very confident and personable - both skills that I find essential in a surgeon. He offered a minimal invasive approach to surgery and a much quicker timeline for recovery - and that is due to his skill was a surgeon. I am feeling so much better than prior to surgery, and it has only been one week. I would recommend Dr. Khurana to anyone with spine related pain, and especially if they were considering surgery. Thank you!

Dr Khurana and all of his staff are incredible. I was at the point where I couldn’t walk more than a few blocks or even brush my teeth without significant pain. Now I walk 2-3 miles everyday at a brisk pace and wake up with hardly any pain every day! This process was long but life changing for me.

Dr. Sunjay Khurana is one of the most treasured of Doctors/surgeons I have been privileged to meet. I suffered from unexpected back problem and was looking into back surgeons. Immediately after meeting Dr. Khurana I knew I was going to have the surgery only with him. The surgery was undoubtedly successful, and I am back to normal. Dr. Khurana saved my life! He is a super surgeon and his staff are great, comforting, and always there for me, specially his knowledgeable PA Elaine who was always available to me and answers every question and concern I had after the surgery! I highly recommend Dr. Khurana to anyone who is suffering from back problems and is in need of a surgery. Thank you Dr. Khurana for taking such an amazing care of me. I’m eternally grateful to you for providing me an ongoing treatment and monitoring my recovery! Sincerely, N. Assil

The best spine surgeon in the business IMO. He's recognized as a Super Doctor for a reason. Important training you want to look for in a spine surgeon doing fusions, which Dr Khurana has, is a fellowship in spine reconstruction because the doctor is removing certain parts of your spine and putting it back together with implants like a car engine that's taken apart and put back together. I've had several surgeries with Dr Khurana... 2019: L4L5/L5S1 fusion, instrumentation, and decompression and 2020: L4L5/L5S1 hardware removal from the 2019 fusion and C5C6 disc replacement. For my neck, I had radiating pain/ongoing tingling down both arms which was exacerbated even from carrying groceries and severe chronic pain in the lower back due to having very little disc material left and couldn't sit long. After the 2019 fusion, I was walking the next morning as soon as I was allowed and my neck disc replacement was a complete success getting rid of the pain down both arms. Dr Khurana is efficient and to the point, answers all your questions, and will diagnose your condition very accurately. He has a great team taking care of patients in different capacities such as his PA, medical assistants, schedulers, billers, surgery staff, etc.. If you're considering spine surgery or want a consultation to discuss a game plan to rehab your spine, I highly recommend you see Dr Khurana.

In early 2017 I slipped on some ice and suffered a stable fracture of the L1 vert. Once the trauma of the fall settled and I thought I could return to normal, I soon discovered I'd never see normal again. The fall changed EVERYTHING, as most traumatic injuries do. I was also suffering from a bad knee I believe was exacerbated by the fall. About a year and a half after the fall, I went to see Dr. Bae on the recommendation of my Dr. He took a look at my MRI and noted I had a bone spur hitting the nerve someplace below the L1 where the break was, something others had missed (bulging discs, not much to do about it). He assured me this was easy to fix and I'd be good as new. BACK SURGERY!!! AHHHHH!!!! I was terrified. He noted that while I had some disc degeneration, he felt my spine overall looked no worse than someone else's my age, or his even, which made me feel good--he's young. Anyway, in November 2018 I had surgery to fix the bone spur. I've had several surgeries in my life and I woke up sick and out of it every time. This time I woke up like I just had the best nap of my life. I was up and going to the bathroom shortly after I woke up and I was home a few hours later. The office follow-up was great, and I thank Lisa Cano for her kindness and thoroughness during a small rough patch about three weeks post surgery. I'd been feeling a little blah and I could tell I was retaining water throughout my body. I just felt...swollen. I got a massage, and while the masseuse was very careful around the incision, she moved things around, as massage will do. A few hours passed and as I got up from the couch to go to bed, my back was wet. Long story short, the incision opened up and was leaking fluid. I immediately called the office (around 9pm, so it was the exchange I got), and Lisa called back immediately, asked me to take a picture, then told me how to cover it, etc. and had me come in the following morning. Dr. Bae was extremely concerned, said he'd never seen this so far out post surgery. He was NOT dismissive or cavalier, which I appreciated. His concern actually made me calmer about it (we can address the psychology of that another time) He swabbed for infection, then dressed it and sent me home with dressings and orders to take pictures after every dressing change. Within a day or two he called and said he wanted to go back in and surgically put a drain in. I finished a round of antibiotics he normally gives post surgery, and he put me on a second round. I was very against going under again, and within a few days the incision began tunneling. It was clear I had an infection but it wasn't bad enough to make me ill-no fever, no pain to speak of, just a little uncomfortable and a lot unnerving. He finally prescribed a different, stronger antibiotic and within a couple of days the tunneling stopped and the incision closed. These things happen. Drs work diligently to prevent infection, but it happens. The competency and care I experienced with Dr. Bae and his PA Lisa cannot be overstated. I was not worried for a second, and when I objected to going under again for the drain, Dr. Bae was firm that we shouldn't wait too long, but he didn't push. I sent Lisa gross pictures of the wound and the bandages every day, and it was enough to ruin the strongest of stomachs. Her communication was right on, and frequent. Saving the best for last, my back is good as new. The only negative was that with a repaired back my knee situation came to the forefront and proceeded to cause me suffering the back couldn't hold a candle to. I got that taken care of in September of 2019 (see my review of Dr Andrew Yun). I cannot say enough about Dr. Bae and his staff. He is just wonderful and he'll be my go-to if any future issues arise.

Dr Bae fixed my back pain! Thank you Dr. Bae. I had severe low back pain. Dr Bae installed the Pro Disc in my L4-L5. The surgery was very successful as I’m still living pain free after 19 years. If you’re a candidate for disc replacement I highly recommend Dr Bae and the Spine Institute.

I have required two foot surgeries in the last 13 months on the same foot and I’ve been so fortunate to have had Dr. Lee do both. He patiently talked me through the pros & cons of each procedure, answered all my many questions which helped me feel comfortable about the decisions I had to make, and has been incredibly responsive after each surgery and during the entire, lengthy recovery periods. Although Dr. Lee’s specialty practice is one I hope to not require too much in the future, I will be back to see him without any hesitation if need be, and will confidently refer friends and family to him as well.

Dr. Sanjay Khurana is an awesome surgeon. This was my second surgery in ten years. The first was at St. Marys in Long Beach. It did not go well for me there. I was never the same. I was very reluctant and scared knowing that I would have to relive that nightmare from ten years ago. Well, here I am two days post-op and I'm walking slowly but without any balance issues or complications. I am very grateful to Dr. Khurana. Before, I could not walk a half city block without falling to the ground in pain. I felt helpless and scared. I feel some discomfort after the surgery but that is to be expected. This is nothing like I encountered in my first surgery ten years ago. I put off the surgery as long as I could because I was genuinely frightened. All is great now! I feel twenty years younger. If I have must require further procedeures Dr. Sanjay Kharana will be the doctor I choose. In closing, it was a wonderful experience. I had the procedure performed at the Diagnostic & Interventional Surgical Center. The staff is wonderful. They are extremely accomodating and genuinely concerned. Again, a big thank you to Dr. Khurana and all of his wonderful staff who made this happen.

Dr. Bhalla is a wonderful spine specialist! It was a big decision to have back surgery but I had lost the ability to carry on many normal activities in my daily life, and I was living with horrible pain. He not only addressed all of my concerns and fears, but he accomplished the surgery with amazing expertise! He has a very caring and calm demeanor, and I couldn't be happier with my results! I have never experienced that horrible pain since my surgery -- even in the early days of my recovery. I would recommend Dr. Bhalla to anybody in need of spine excellent care! He's the BEST!!

I someb managed to mess up my back pretty bad Memorial Day weekend. I contacted dr Bhalla's office on a Tuesday morning and got an appointment for the next day. He scheduled me for a MRI on Thursday. Got results Friday morning and the GOOD doctor said I needed surgery. My pain level on a 1-10 scale was approximately 17! He got his team together and managed to get me into the hospital that afternoon and performed surgery at 6:00AM the following day. When I recovered from the anesthetic the pain was gone. It's important to note the he had things on his agenda that took him out of the country but that did not stop him from making a follow up call to assure all was well. He also arranged for my release the next day. I'm grateful to have had a skilled and caring doctor. Hopefully I won't need his surgical skills in the future. Well, I had another problem with my lower back that required the GOOD doctor do another surgery in January. As hoped and believed, it had great results. I just left his office about 20 minutes ago for a follow up check and ALL IS WELL!! Thanx again!!

I chose Dr. Khurana from three other neck surgeons on my research list. I’m so happy I did! I’m one week post cervical fusion and disc replacement surgery and I can feel the difference already. His personality and kindness of time to explain the surgery and answer all my questions allowed me to make my decision and go into surgery with no fear or anxiety. His staff is amazing and on point and the surgery center nurses and anesthesiologists were 1st class. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the greatest. He’s a 10! Thank you so much and I look forward to my post surgery follow up to Thank him again personally. Update: I had my three month post op w/ Dr. Khurana. 🙏🏼🙌 PT is going great and I finally feel like I’m on the road to getting my pain free life back. Thank you!!!

Dr. Bae is a miracle worker. He’s a brilliant diagnostician and surgeon, ethical, empathetic and a wonderful person. He saved me from having 4 vertebrae fused after 2 other orthopedic surgeons told me it was necessary. Fast forward 2 years and my wife gets a horrible case of vertebral osteomyelitis. After 2 ER bungles, misdiagnoses by another another 2 doctors and 20 wasted days at UCI Medical center and a rehab, Dr. Bae came to the rescue. The 2 months of debilitating pain she endured was gone when she awoke from a 6 hour surgery. She’s now recovering at home. We will both be forever grateful to Dr. Bae.
Hyun Bae, MD
The Dr. is calm and had eye contact with us in discussing my options to best meet my need of pain and electrical sensation in my legs..He's kick back like he had no where else to be.. His PA seems to be taking our conversation down and what was decided.. Leaving the room I was handed a folder with the explanation of the procedure and what recovery would be.. I'm expecting a call from Jessica who schedules surgery in the next few days!!

When I met Dr. Eric Milstein, I felt, I was in good hands. The fact that he treat me with my knee problem and walk me thru everything I should know about what was going on and keep me inform with his awesome staff & very professional. The surgery was a successful, I was kind of nervous but is something what all feel. But with doctor Milstein made me feel very confident and more relax. I would definitely recommend you Dr, Eric Milstein if you have any issues with your knee or anything related with his professional career. I am so Much Thankful with his work.

Dr. Khurana communicated very well and laid out surgical treatment option. I’d done physical therapy with out improvement, and he evaluated my MRI and x-rays with a expert’s eye. My critical issues were degenerative spondylolisthesis and stenosis that together had come to make walking more than a couple hundred feet difficult with dangerous potential for a bad fall. Dr. Khurana explained his surgical approach and I knew I’d found the right surgeon. As he explained, he’s a spine specialist; that’s “all” he does. He uses a minimally invasive approach that makes the surgery much less traumatic for his patients (but probably more technically challenging for the surgeon). I’d been scared of front and back access approaches I’d read about that involved extensive dissection, so I was greatly relieved. In my case, I had minimal post-operative pain, (just used cold packs a few times) and one week post-op I’m walking well (with a walker for safety for a few more days) and a back brace to remind me not to Bend, Lift or Twist. I’m very happy with results so far! I’m very happy with the results so far.

If you need back surgery, you cannot find a better surgeon than Dr. Bae!! My diagnosis was spinal stenosis. My symptoms were pain in my right hip and leg, plus muscle weakness. I am 78 years old and was nervous about back surgery, so I opted for steroid injections in my back, and this reduced the pain for a couple of months, but did nothing to help the weakness. Then, four months ago, I had been sitting on my couch and as I went to stand up, I leaned over to one side and must have twisted my back, when suddenly I was in immense pain and was unable to move my right foot! I went to the emergency room and had an MRI and was told I needed surgery! This is when I called Dr. Bae's office and was told to send my MRI disc and was given an immediate appointment after talking to Dr. Bae's assistant. I saw Dr. Bae on Friday, and watched him review my MRI - his comment was "wow, you need to have surgery, and we can do it on Tuesday!" I was sent nearby for an immediate second MRI and giveen my pre-op instructions for checking in to St. John's that Tuesday. I walked out the next morning with no pain. My leg weakness is steadily getting better with therapy and I was able to return to playing badminton in 2 months! Dr. Bae has literally saved my way of life. I could not walk without a walker when I had my surgery. Now I am walking my Border Collie and playing badminton!

Dr, Bae changed my life!!!!! After seeing several outstanding back surgeons across the country, I chose Dr. Bae for my decompression back surgery after he explained in detail all of my options. On my first appointment I was using a walker and in severe pain...for over 6 months. I was nervous to have back surgery but he gave me confidence it would all be successful...and it was! The day after surgery I was walking normally and pain free. Its now been three months and trusting Dr. Bae was the best decision I've ever made. This 70yr old grandma now feels like she's 40 again.

I cannot recommend Dr. Garabekyan enough. He has changed my life. After experiencing many years of hip pain and immobility due to an unknown hip deformity, he was able to determine the cause, repair and reshape my hips. These past five years have been the most difficult in my life. I’ve gone through over 10-15 pelvic mris, failed numerous biologic meds, lost my career, and started to lose myself. I’m now able to walk longer periods without excruciating pain and limping. I suffer from psoriatic arthritis, but finding a solution to my hip problem has already given me hope for my future and that is a huge accomplishment in my book. Thank you Dr. Garabekyan for your patience, skill, hard work, and kindness. To anyone experiencing chronic hip pain, please don’t waste your time with anyone else. Make an appointment with Dr. Garabekyan.

Hello to my fellow back pain sufferers. At 60 I have had all types of joint pain over the years, knee operations, rotator cuff tears etc, but nothing is worse than back pain which I felt severely limited my quality of life. After 5 years of severe back pain, acupuncture treatments, chiroprator visits, physical therapy and stretching exercizes, and 4 spine specialists (2 told me I needed back surgery, 2 told me surgery could make my back worse!) I finally came to know Dr. Khurana through a friend my age with simimar back issues who sang his praises. Long story short, Dr. Khurana is something of a miracle worker if you ask me. Had my surgery 8 months ago and after a few weeks of post surgery discomfort my back has been virtually pain free. No more frantically looking around for a chair when in a conversation, now I walk the Topanga hills of the SM mountains for exercize, no problem. Back pain is no joke, if you tried and tried to do things to alleviate the pain but nothing is really working...do yourself a favor and go see Dr. Khurana. If you elect to have surgery, ask to go to Docs hospital by San Vicente and Fairfax, a doctor owned facility which is a far sight better than one of those huge hospitals.
