Reviewer names are abbreviated. Patient reviews describe individual experiences. Review counts describe source records, not unique patients or clinical outcomes; the acquired snapshot may not include complete platform histories. Clinical education and patient accounts do not replace a consultation.

> Dr. Bhalla is great! I've had back issues and intermittent pain throughout my adult years. Whenever it got intolerable I resorted to acupuncture and/or chiropractic care and on a few occasions epidurals. Someone cutting on my back was not anything I was receptive to. When sciatic episodes became more frequent and longer lasting and I was forced to postpone scheduled knee replacement surgery I reluctantly decided to again consult an orthopedic surgeon.
>
> After initial consultation, x-rays and MRI I had follow up appointment with Dr. Bhalla to discuss options. He recommended surgery. Still reluctant to go that route I opted for another try with an epidural, but to to no avail. Back to Dr. Bhalla who told me the problems were going to continue to get worse so at age 73 I finally agreed to surgery.
>
> Lower lumber fusion surgery was performed at Long Beach Memorial Hospital by Dr. Bhalla and Dr. Rao (vascular surgeon). Anterior Lumber Interbody Fusion (ALIF) and laminectomy surgeries were performed on Monday and Thursday of the same week. The week in the hospital (overall very good care and treatment) and first 2 weeks at home I experienced moderate pain and discomfort but nothing intolerable. After 2 weeks of light rehab at home I started physical therapy program. After several weeks of PT my back felt really good. It has been nearly one year since the surgery and other than minimal discomfort during the initial recovery period I have experienced no back pain!
>
> From the initial consultation through the post-op visits Dr. Bhalla thoroughly explained all the options, the details of the surgical procedure, the recovery and rehabilitation process and patiently answered all my questions. Dr. Bhalla is a compassionate and highly skilled physician and surgeon! And, kudos to his very competent and kind office staff. While back surgery is a last resort, if there is no other viable way to address your pain and problems Dr. Bhalla is the surgeon for you.

> I underwent the FAI arthroscopy with Dr. Ramkumar last month and the recovery has been very smooth. The early results have been great with more range of motion and less stiffness compared to before the surgery. The pain was so minimal after the surgery that I had to actively remind myself to follow the rest guidelines and not bear weight on my joint too soon.
>
> My original symptoms were a lot of hip stiffness and limited hip range of motion. I would also notice intense aching with weight lifting, long distance running, and skiing. I regularly stretched and would see physical therapists but my symptoms remained the same. Dr. Ramkumar did an incredible job of running through my symptoms, physical exam findings, and X-rays to diagnose the FAI and rule out other conditions. His discussion of management principles and what surgery and postop would entail was very helpful and reassuring. Also, knowing that he’s done so much of this type of surgery reassured me that my outcomes would be great and recovery would be smooth. He also has a physical therapy team in his clinic that has a structured routine to help improve the recovery process after surgery.
>
> I would 100% undergo this surgery with Dr. Ramkumar again and have already scheduled the surgery for my other hip. I would recommend anyone that notices this or similar symptoms to at least schedule a consultation with him to discuss further.

> I’m only 15 days out from my MAKO-assisted total knee replacement, and I’m already very happy with my decision to have Dr. Ramkumar perform my surgery.
>
> I originally found Dr. Ramkumar while researching the Nano Knee procedure and exploring my options for knee replacement. After learning more and meeting with him, I ultimately chose to work with Dr. Ramkumar and opted for the MAKO-assisted total knee replacement—and I’m so glad I did.
>
> Dr. Ramkumar really knows his stuff. From the beginning, he was thorough, straightforward, and made sure I understood exactly what to expect before surgery and throughout recovery. He lays everything out for you and provides in depth information through his website so that you can go into the process informed and prepared.
>
> I’ve been committed to following his directions, taking my medications as scheduled, and doing my physical therapy. I know I’m still very early in the healing process and have more work ahead of me, but at just 15 days post-op, I’m extremely happy with my progress.
>
> Dr. Ramkumar and his entire team have been knowledgeable, professional, and supportive throughout this experience. A total knee replacement is a big decision, and having confidence in your surgeon and the process makes all the difference. I’m grateful I did my research, grateful I chose Dr. Ramkumar, and very pleased with both the care I’ve received and my recovery so far.

> As a Div 1 Track athlete with bilateral hip pain before meeting Dr. Ramkumar no one I went to could accurately tell me what was going with my hips. After the first visit with Dr. Ramkumar he explained in detail what was going on and what my options were, from there I decided that I wanted to go through with getting a bilateral hip arthroscopy. He explained exactly what was going to happen during the procedure and about the recovery process before hand so there were no surprises. The procedure went great and I would say the recovery went even better. There was minimal to no pain within the first few days and I was walking the day of the procedure. It has now been around 4 months since the surgery and with the help of physical therapy and strength training my hips feel way better than they did before and I am able to run pain free again. I am very grateful to Dr. Ramkumar for playing a major role in my journey of getting back on the Track.

> For almost half of my life, pain was not something that happened to me. It was the backdrop against which everything else happened.
>
> I am 23. Since I was 13, I cannot remember waking up without stiffness/pain in my back. Pain has a way of changing shape over time, beginning as a symptom but becoming part of your identity. Somewhere along the way, I stopped hoping to feel better and accepted it as part of my life.
>
> As a former UCLA Division I tennis player who has always loved being active, I spent years searching for an answer: physical therapy, massage, cupping, acupuncture, strengthening, injections, imaging, and countless evaluations across the world. I never got a clear diagnosis despite seeing several orthopedists, and was told to consider chronic pain syndrome, with exploratory spine surgery as a last resort. Every opinion carried the same message: learn to live with it.
>
> Meeting Dr. Prem Ramkumar was the first time someone wasn't just listening to my symptoms; he was trying to understand my story, asking why instead of accepting the limits of what had already been tried. As a former D1 athlete, I'd worked with plenty of physicians, but he treated me with the same precision I've learned he gives medal-winning Olympians and Stanley Cup champions he treats professionally. I felt like one of his VIPs. It changed everything when he diagnosed me with hip impingement after a careful battery of tests, since my presentation was atypical. It was the first time I had an answer, and a solution.
>
> What will stay with me forever is not just the surgery itself, but the morning after. I sat on my bed and waited for the familiar stiffness in my lower back. It never came, and to this day, it still hasn't. I biked 130 miles the first day after surgery!! I began physical therapy on day three at his office, and weaned off my crutches and brace within a week. Since then, I have moved through daily life without pain.
>
> The absence of pain has been remarkable, but what surprised me even more is everything that was restored: I sleep through the night, my mind feels quieter, and the constant background noise chronic pain creates has disappeared. My mood and energy are better, and I'm standing taller. My wearable's resting heart rate and sleep scores reflect it too: my body is finally healing, not merely enduring. It isn't just excitement, but disbelief; my brain keeps searching for the pain it's so accustomed to finding. Then, little by little, I realized it isn't temporary relief. It's freedom, for the first time in a decade.
>
> People often think surgery changes your body. With Dr. Ramkumar, it also changed my relationship with the future. For years, every decision carried an invisible calculation: could my back handle this, would I wake up unable to move? Pain quietly dictated where I went and who I believed I could become. I didn't realize how much space it occupied until it was gone. Today, I believe this surgery will make me a better athlete than I was.
>
> So many others told me this wasn't possible. Dr. Ramkumar never accepted that answer. That speaks to his character: his persistence, his curiosity, his genuine commitment to patients who've spent years searching for someone willing to keep looking. He treated me as a person whose story deserved to be understood, not another MRI. As someone who now works in medicine, I've learned he believed in me when no one else would.
>
> Medicine is often described as restoring function. Sometimes it restores possibility. No review could fully express what he gave me: mornings I had forgotten were possible, confidence in my body, and a future no longer defined by limitations.
>
> If you have spent years searching for answers, feeling unheard, or wondering whether anyone will look beyond the obvious, I cannot recommend Dr. Ramkumar enough. My experience changed the course of my life, and I will always be grateful he refused to stop asking why, and fixed me.
>
> Additionally, Margo, his NP, matches that same excellence. Her clinical sharpness was matched only by the genuine care she brought to my recovery.

> Dr. Prem Ramkumar is amazing. I recently had my second total knee replacement from him. He is kind, considerate, knowledgeable, current with the latest technologies, all around, the ideal doctor for a joint replacement. Less than one week after surgery I feel the progress I’ve made. My physical therapist was impressed that i could slide my knee into almost 90 degrees 4 days post op.
>
> I’ve never experienced a more caring and responsive doctor. He responds to emails very quickly and answers all questions. He understands his patients and is never dismissive. Unrelated to my knee replacements that Dr. Ramkumar completed, I mentioned hip pain I am experiencing. Not only did he refer me to a colleague he respects but he phoned the colleague to discuss my situation. He asked to be kept in the loop to see me through my hip issue. I am so impressed with his kind and compassionate demeanor.
>
> I was impressed with Dr. Ramkumar after I first met him, but even more so impressed after I looked at how many studies he performed, research he completed, and papers he published. In speaking to so many about him, the overwhelming consensus seems to be the same, Dr. Prem Ramkumar is top in his field and a lifelong learner.

> I am 66 years old and played and enjoyed competitive sports my entire life up until 3-4 years ago. My left knee pain was consistently keeping me from enjoying things that contributed to my overall happiness and wellbeing. My wife and I could not longer bicycle or walk together as we always did due to my knee pain. My primary care physician referred me for X-ray and MRI, which resulted in me promptly being diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis of the left knee. I was then referred to Dr. Ramkumar and his team for physical therapy and evaluation. While the physical therapy did not resolve my arthritis, it was a great step in the right direction and I am very thankful to have met Dr. Ramkumar and his entire team. After 10 physical therapy sessions, I decided to proceed with total knee replacement after re-viewing imaging and treatment plans again. Within 10 minutes, he explained that my meniscus was completely torn and the cartilage in my knee was eroded and non-existent! He recommended a total knee replacement and explained in detail the preparation, surgery itself, recovery, and answered any and all questions I had. I was scheduled for surgery and was emailed information including emails of the process. I participated in an online zoom call with a registered nurse, who further explained my surgery and peri-operative recovery extensively. I was very informed about the things i would need like ice packs, medications, and more! My surgery was on 5/26/26 and I was walking the same afternoon and went home the same day which is a blessing. The first night I had difficulty sleeping as I had reluctance taking the prescribed pain medications, but after taking pain mediations the next day, my pain was managed and I slept perfectly. After the second night, I no longer needed any narcotic pain relief. I also began at home physical therapy on day 2 and I worked diligently to get my life back. Working hard paid off big time! After my 2 post-op surgery appointments with Dr. Ramkumar, I was cleared to drive and resume normal activities. It has been less than 2 months since surgery and now I can walk miles at a time, bicycle miles at a time, and swim as long as I desire. Thank you so much to Dr. Ramkumar and his team, everyone of them works cohesively together and answers any and all of my questions and concerns. They helped to make my surgery and recovery seamless and successful. While I hope to never need no additional surgery, Dr. Ramkumar will be my first call if I ever begin having trouble in my right knee and I have no hesitations that he is the perfect man for the job! I have already referred him to my personal friends and would not hesitate to continue referring him to anyone I know. I am back to all activities and excited to have my life back with no pain, as all my expectations from before surgery were exceeded. - R. Stuver.

> I would like to first say, thank you to Dr.Ramkumar for repairing my right knee which had been bothering me for months prior my medical procedure. Im also amazed at how quickly my knee is healing only 2 and a half months after my Meniscus surgery. He's plan of action before and most important after has been amazing. Following his step by step advice as well as physical therapy he arranged made all the difference in the world and I would recommend anyone seeking help and looking for highly experienced Orthopedic advice or treatment from a doctor to go see Dr. Ramkumar. Thank you again doctor to you and your staff for literally getting me back on my feet again and allow my life to steadily get back to normal.

> I owe a lot to Dr. Ramkumar! I had serious arthritis in my hip and was in constant pain. I did not want to give up the activities that I enjoyed, but one by one, I was doing less of them because of that pain. Dr. Ramkumar explained the whole process of hip replacement thoroughly and I made the decision to do it. This was one of the best decisions I ever made.
>
> Through information on Dr. Ramkumar’s website, a brochure provided by his staff, and a zoom class every step was explained. When I woke up from surgery the pain in my hip gone. Sure there was surgery pain as expected but that horrible hip pain was completely gone.
>
> I can’t say enough about how supportive Dr. Ramkumar, his staff, and the physical therapy clinic on site have been. I now walk everyday, do yoga, water aerobics, and just completed a three hour walking tour that I had purchased but had been unable to do as it was too painful. I feel I have been given an incredible opportunity. Thank you Dr. Ramkumar!

> After my daughter injured her knee, we spent months being told she just needed rest, but she never fully healed. Once an MRI was finally ordered, we met with a local orthopedic surgeon, but the experience felt rushed and lacked compassion. That’s when I started researching other options and came across Dr. Ramkumar.
> From our very first appointment, we knew we had made the right decision. Dr. Ramkumar was kind, patient, informative, and never once made us feel rushed or pressured into surgery. He took the time to thoroughly explain her ACL and meniscus surgery along with the recovery process, which gave us so much reassurance during a stressful time.
> Her recovery has honestly exceeded anything we expected. She was off crutches at 2 weeks, out of her brace at 4 weeks, and now 4 months post-op she continues to do incredibly well with minimal to no pain. His physical therapy team has also been amazing supportive, patient, and truly invested in her recovery.
> We gladly make the almost 3-hour commutes because Dr. Ramkumar and his entire team have been the perfect fit for my daughter. We are beyond grateful for the care, encouragement, and support they have given her throughout this journey.

> ⭐ Thank you Dr. Ramkumar
> I spent more than seven years dealing with worsening hip pain, and it slowly took away the things I loved. I couldn’t play golf or even hit balls on the driving range. I had to stop doing the sideline marker for high school football — something I truly enjoyed. Eventually, even a simple 20 minute walk became painful. My world kept getting smaller, and I knew something had to change.
> That change came when I met Dr. Ramkumar.
> I’m now 11 weeks post op from my anterior hip replacement, and the difference is remarkable. I’m improving every day — walking comfortably, regaining strength, and finally seeing a future where I can return to the activities I’ve missed for so long. My goal was never just a quick recovery, but a complete recovery, and for the first time in years, that goal is clearly in sight.
> The entire experience has been exceptional not only because of Dr. Ramkumar’s surgical skill and clear communication, but also because of his outstanding team. Margo, his assistant, has been incredibly responsive and supportive. Stephanie, the scheduler, made every step of the process smooth and stress free. And Mina, the physical therapist, has been instrumental in my progress — he’s guided me through each stage of rehab with expertise and encouragement. I’m continuing therapy with him for another three weeks, and each session moves me closer to full strength.
> Thanks to Dr. Ramkumar and his team, I’m not just healing — I’m getting my life back. I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone facing hip issues or considering joint replacement.

> Dr. Ortega has been amazing, life changing!! I was in so much pain by the time I was referred to him, I was barely sleeping, and missing a ton of work because of the pain and feeling off balance. I was initially referred to physical therapy which was helping both my neck and a shoulder condition. I wasn’t understanding how so many symptoms (pain in my arm, fingers tingling, feeling off balance) all stemmed from my neck. When Dr. Ortega spoke with me about Complete Disk Replacement surgery I was relieved. Though the procedure on my neck sounded scary it HAD to be better than how life had been. I was actually excited for the surgery and couldn’t stop smiling any time it was brought up. Surgery day couldn’t come fast enough. Dr. Ortega took time to explain the surgery and what to expect after it. There were literally no surprises. I felt very little pain after surgery, mostly from the incision itself. There was some discomfort in my neck, almost felt as if there was a lump in my throat. This went away in about 6 weeks. I was off all pain meds within days of surgery. I was nervous about swallowing and stuck to a liquid diet for a few days. Swallowing was back to normal with in a week or two, ice pops became a favorite! . My voice was a little raspy for a short time as well, cleared up within a month. I just had my 6 month post-op appointment and I can’t tell you enough how amazing I feel! The pain and tingling are completely gone (went to physical therapy for some time…work the process). I can sleep through the night again! I did have one odd symptom around 3 months post op, when I tilted my head down I felt a static sensation from neck to my fingers which lasted a second. Dr. Ortega was able to see me next day, checked X-rays and everything looked great. My nerves were heeling and the sensation went away after a couple of weeks. I know the thought of surgery on your neck sounds very scary…if Dr. Ortega is your surgeon, rest easy…he knows what he’s doing. He takes the time to explain everything about the surgery (CDR), what to expect after, answered every question I had which eased my mind. He gave me my life back! Thank you Dr. Ortega!!

> Dr. Ramkumar diagnosed and solved a problem that has caused me back pain for over 20 years, going back to collegiate athletics. What I thought was a back problem was actually a hip/femur issue. Dr. Ramkumar diagnosed it immediately, and worked with my insurance to have surgery approved.
>
> The surgery went off without a hitch. I felt no pain after the surgery (even when the meds wore off), either at the incision site or within my hip/back. My previous back pain was almost immediately gone. Minah and the physical therapy staff were also incredible in getting me back to better than before. I can’t thank Dr. Ramkumar and his staff enough, this surgery and diagnosis was truly life changing.

> Dr. Ramkumar has been the best doctor I have ever had the opportunity to see.
> Let me rewind a bit. I had a serious soccer accident when I was 16 that resulted in hip surgery at 17. At the time, I thought I was good to go. Unfortunately, my body had other plans. I only had about two pain-free years before the hip pain returned, and over the next 8–9 years it slowly got worse. What started as hip pain turned into back pain, knee pain, sciatica—you name it.
> I tried everything: physical therapy after physical therapy, aqua therapy, doctor after doctor. Every test came back “normal,” and no one could tell me what was wrong. It felt like either no one was looking hard enough, or no one truly understood what I was dealing with.
> That all changed when I met Dr. Ramkumar.
> At my very first appointment, he took new X-rays, looked at them once, and immediately knew what was wrong. For the first time, I finally had answers. Even more importantly, he took the time—despite his busy schedule—to sit with me and explain everything in a way I could truly understand. He is incredibly personable and never talks down to you like some doctors do. You can genuinely tell that he cares about helping you get your life back from chronic pain.
> I was understandably nervous about going through surgery again, but between Dr. Ramkumar and his amazing staff, I felt confident moving forward. And let me tell you—it was life-changing. I finally feel free from the pain that haunted me for so many years. I only wish I had found his office sooner.
> Every single staff member, from the PAs to the front office team, is kind, welcoming, and treats you like family. They make you feel heard, comfortable, and supported—qualities that are sadly rare in medical settings, in my experience.
> I am beyond grateful for the care Dr. Ramkumar and his team have provided, and I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone who is sick and tired of living in pain.

> Dr. Ramkumar is a very professional and knowledgeable Doctor. Dr. Ramkumar repaired my completely torn ACL as well as both of my torn Meniscus from a sports injury. I initially planned to shop around for an Orthopedic Surgeon as I wanted to make sure everything was done correctly, but after seeing my first Doctor (Dr. Ramkumar), I did not want anyone else to do my surgery but him. I knew I was in good hands as he made me feel very comfortable and explained all aspects of the procedures thoroughly. He also has a great support staff around him who is also very knowledgeable. After completing my 4 month post op appointment, he was very pleased with how I had recovered by following his guidance as well as the guidance from his connected physical therapy department. If I was to recommended to a family member who to go to for any orthopedic needs, I would refer Dr. Ramkumar.

> Dr. Millstein restored my right rotator cuff to better-than-new condition nine years ago. My latest visit was to be examined for soreness in my left shoulder. X-rays and an examination by him indicated it was nothing more than a pulled ligament requiring some physical therapy. I found Dr. Millstein to be just as personable and professional as he was years ago. See him. Trust him. You’ll be glad you did.
