After dealing with a shoulder issue for months, asking friends and finding that in spite of successful outcomes noone was raving about their physician, I went on Yelp and found Dr. Millstein. I then received a separate recommendation from a nurse in another office - always a good sign. Both got it right. He was knowledgeable, personable, attentive and engaged. In other words excellent bedside manner. I thought I would wait to review him after my follow up appointment. The net net- my second visit was as reassuring as the first visit. During my initial consultation, Dr. Ramkumar reviewed my medical history and studied my MRIs and X-rays. He then patiently discussed with me how I felt and how my issue was impacting my daily life. It is rare for a doctor to spend time including the patient in forming the diagnosis. After my five years of severe pain, during which I incurred multiple surgeries, shots, and pain pills, I am finally back to my active lifestyle. I will never forget her saying, "I am a surgeon and I LOVE doing surgery. But, I don't think the pain you're having is going to be fixed with the surgery you're about to have." I unfortunately slipped and fractured 2 bones in my leg. Having never had anything more than a paper cut in all my life I was terrified. I could not have been referred to a better Dr. !!! From my first visit, Dr. Millstein was personable and patient as he SAT and walked me through the x-ray of my leg, explaining the bone(s) I fractured, how they "work", what the recovery process would look like and even the symptoms I might have as I recovered. Without knowing it, this is exactly what I needed...details. He didn't try to rush the healing process but encouraged me (when it was time and the bone had healed) to do what "felt right" as I began to move away from the crutches and the boot. This may sound elementary and expected and if it is - great! However, I've had my share of annual office visits to the Dr. over the years and the totality of all of those visits pales in comparison to exceptional service of Dr. Millstein and the Commons Clinic staff. From the greeting from the front office and the respect of your time (not even a 15 min wait to be seen) to entire back office staff - they are all following the example he is setting. Everyone makes you feel like they are there to help which is an awesome feeling when you are down and wobbling around on crutches! However, his talents go far beyond his surgical skills. By way of background, I had an artificial disc replacement at the L5-S1 level. After a decade of countless epidurals and two microdiscetomies, I finally opted for surgery. Everything went as planned. To say “Dr Khurana has been there every step of the way” is a massive understatement. He has called me numerous times post-surgery to ask how I’m doing and walk me through what to expect next from my body during the recovery. I have never encountered such a thoughtful and caring doctor in all my years. You can hear it in his voice and more importantly see it in his actions. I couldn’t be more thankful for what he has done to get me through both my surgery and my ongoing recovery. > > Now for his staff. He's recognized as a Super Doctor for a reason. Important training you want to look for in a spine surgeon doing fusions, which Dr Khurana has, is a fellowship in spine reconstruction because the doctor is removing certain parts of your spine and putting it back together with implants like a car engine that's taken apart and put back together. I've had several surgeries with Dr Khurana... 2019: L4L5/L5S1 fusion, instrumentation, and decompression and 2020: L4L5/L5S1 hardware removal from the 2019 fusion and C5C6 disc replacement. For my neck, I had radiating pain/ongoing tingling down both arms which was exacerbated even from carrying groceries and severe chronic pain in the lower back due to having very little disc material left and couldn't sit long. After the 2019 fusion, I was walking the next morning as soon as I was allowed and my neck disc replacement was a complete success getting rid of the pain down both arms. Dr Khurana is efficient and to the point, answers all your questions, and will diagnose your condition very accurately. He has a great team taking care of patients in different capacities such as his PA, medical assistants, schedulers, billers, surgery staff, etc.. If you're considering spine surgery or want a consultation to discuss a game plan to rehab your spine, I highly recommend you see Dr Khurana. J. K. Dr Garabekyan took the time to review everything in absolute detail and explain based on the images what is likely going on. They were able to get me in quickly (less than a week) and clearly know how to run an office, as everything ran on time, and I seemed to be scheduled with enough time for him to spend with me. He's very cautious and warns you sternly about postoperative care. I really like the way he dresses and his style because after all he is a Beverly Hills doctor. My symptoms were pain in my right hip and leg, plus muscle weakness. I am 78 years old and was nervous about back surgery, so I opted for steroid injections in my back, and this reduced the pain for a couple of months, but did nothing to help the weakness. > > Then, four months ago, I had been sitting on my couch and as I went to stand up, I leaned over to one side and must have twisted my back, when suddenly I was in immense pain and was unable to move my right foot! I went to the emergency room and had an MRI and was told I needed surgery! This is when I called Dr. Bae's office and was told to send my MRI disc and was given an immediate appointment after talking to Dr. Bae's assistant. I saw Dr. Bae on Friday, and watched him review my MRI - his comment was "wow, you need to have surgery, and we can do it on Tuesday!"
