He came highly recommended to me by many medical professionals and my husband who is also a doctor. He was extremely honest with me about my need for surgery and he was right. Everything he said came true about my knee and in the end I needed a procedure. I was extremely nervous about the whole procedure and he took the time to explain everything to me and calm me down. He had so much empathy and understanding of my fears and took the time to speak to me about it. On the morning of the surgery he came in prepared, on time and did a fabulous job. In the middle of April I injured my right knee. Once I had an mri and a confirmed rupture of almost every ligament in my knee and some meniscus damage I knew I had a long road ahead. I was referred to Dr Ramkumar by a local urgent care and was able to get an appointment the following week. After doing some research on my particular injuries, MCL, ACL, PCL, Menisci damage I knew I needed someone who had the knowledge and the skills to successfully repair my knee. I did have some apprehension just knowing how complex the repair could be, but after meeting Dr Ramkumar and discussing the case and the plan of care I felt so much better. Dr Ramkumar explained my injuries thoroughly and also discussed how he planned to repair the joint, including harvesting some patella tendon, installing some aftermarket tendons, and even a full internal MCL bracing, I knew he was building my knee out like I played for the LA Rams. He developed a full rehabilitation protocol for my multiligamentous repair, and provided me with enough time to heal and get back to activity. Dr Ramkumar has a great attitude and always makes you feel as if you’re the only patient he has to see that day. He takes the time to have that conversation with you and ensure understanding. I arrived early, as I am a new patient, and provided notes and images of recent MRIs and CT scan. The front desk staff was professional and personable. Before my appointment time, the X-ray technician came for me to take a routine spine image. He has a great sense of humor, and quickly completed the X-ray. He also escorted me to the patient room. The Doctor's assistant arrived almost immediately and asked some routine questions regarding my current symptoms and pain level. Dr. Khurana arrived at about 5 minutes after my scheduled time. We discussed my past history, and he reviewed the recent MRI and CT images I had provided. He offered a surgical solution and discussed/explained how it would be accomplished while showing me on the images what would be done. I was treated with the utmost courtesy and respect by everyone. I thank everyone associated with my appointment for making this first visit a pleasure. > > Revision L5-S1, posterior decompression and extension of fusion to pelvis was scheduled for August 5, 2024. > When I arrived for surgery, it was clear that the admitting staff was well organized and professional. There was a sense of calm which reduced any anxiety I had. > I was escorted to my room in a timely manner by one of the nurses. Almost as soon as I had changed into a hospital gown, Dr. Khurana and the Anesthesiologist came in to discuss the procedure, medications, expectations, etc. I was treated with the utmost respect as we discussed the medications to which I am allergic or highly sensitive. In short, I cannot take narcotics or opiods for pain, which was a challenge for the medical team. However, my requests were honored, and I did very well. In addition, two of my best friends "stood in" for my family who were unavailable. They were treated with the highest regard and were updated on my condition as though they were my family. > I was released to go home the afternoon of August 6 with routine post-op instructions. > My post-op appointment with Dr. Khurana was September 20, 2024. I was so grateful that finally I was referred to a doctor that knew and understood everything I have been experiencing since 2017. Dr Ortega was very thorough in explaining the Cervical Radiculopathy ACDF procedure. I wanted to wait a year before writing this review and I have to tell you that it’s so wonderful to be able to sleep and to wake up and not have the constant pain and weakness in my neck and on my right arm and shoulder. The surgery and care afterwards was exceptional without any problems. Physical therapy in the same office was better than I have experienced elsewhere. My left hip surgery was extremely successful and I was up walking the same day as the surgery and slowly progressed to walking unassisted 1-2 miles daily outside my home in just the first two weeks. Plus, much to my surprise, Dr. Ramkumar visited me in my hospital room in the evening no doubt after a very long day of multiple surgeries to check in and see how I was doing. Best of all, the unrelenting sciatica pain for the past 6 mos is gone. I did not wait to do the procedure, though I didn’t want to do it, and I think that made the difference for a good outcome. I have diminishing post op pain and increase in activity (6 weeks post op) as the weeks go on. Very relieved this is over and grateful for the good results. S. He did not seem to be as prepared as in previous appointments, even insisting I had received an ablation treatment I had not. He did finally agree to schedule an ablation treatment on my back and suggested on for my neck in the future, but failed to review my MRI to justify his decision. > He did show concern for the amount of Advi I regularly took to relief my lower back pain and prescribed a 30 pill prescription of Tramadol as an alternative, with the instructions to take one to two pills daily. > 45 days later with 10 pills to spare I asked for a refill but it took over 10 days for the pharmacy to finally get the doctor's approval after the request. > I have an ablation scheduled for July 22, 2025. And here I am 4 months later and I'm walking and biking! > I first saw Dr Ramkumar in December 2024, I had been having serious knee issues and pain for about 6 months. After a lot of research around the internet I came across his website. Upon meeting Dr Ramkumar I felt comfortable. He is easy to talk to and gives you clear and concise answers. He laid out my options and told me to think about. He directed me to his comprehensive website which includes and hour by hour breakout of the operation, all medications and when they are to be administered. in addition the site includes details of when you are to start bending, straightening and walking. Along with when you start therapy. I returned 2 weeks later with questions which he answered. As in the first appointment he didn't put any pressure me to get the operation, he stressed that was my decision. I'll be honest, i was terrified. I was convinced that I would not be able to do the PT and it would be a disaster. It's funny, he kept telling me he knew I would be able to handle it. I had the operation March 2 at Long Beach Memorial, and was up and about on the 3rd. I was still afraid I would not be able to do the PT at home. The hospital staff could not have been better. The PT folks walked me through every movement I would have to make at home (in/out of bed, on/off toilet, up and down the stairs) until I was comfortable I could do it! Went home the next day and PT began coming to my house the same week. And I have never looked back!
