After other orthopedists recommended that I have arthroscopic hip surgery, I had a difficult time finding someone who actually performs it. When I finally saw Dr. Ramkumar, he listened patiently to my story of pain and frustration. He is personable and knew exactly what I was describing and how to fix it with this minimally invasive procedure. I am now four weeks post surgery. Just three small scars and I’m walking normally and doing great! I have to mention how organized he is with so much information and guidelines on his website. And the couple of times I had questions, he responded right away. I couldn’t be more pleased with my experience and results. A. He had me scheduled for a complete hip replacement the following month. Immediately after surgery the pain in the hip was gone and was sent home the next day . On my very first post surgery visit with Dr. Ramkumar , I walked in under my own steam....pain free and no cane. I can't thank him enough. He gave me my mobility back. Ramkumar, MD, MBA > My experience with Dr. Ramkumar was incredible. I have had knee and back pain for years and thought that it was because of an old car accident or maybe bad ergonomics. Apparently, I had a FAI (femoracetabular impingement) where my bone plates grew too much between the ages of 15-22, probably because I played a bit too much (pickup!) basketball. This impingement has been causing a lot of my issues and I never knew because I didn’t have hip pain. > I went to a different orthopedist because I had a torn labrum in my left hip, but I never knew the full extent of my issues! The other doctor referred me to Dr. Ramkumar because he didn’t do arthroscopic surgeries like Dr. Ramkumar does. Dr. Ramkumar immediately realized that I probably had an impingement in both hips and he gave me an x-ray that demonstrated what I needed. He planned everything and gave me bilateral hip surgery a month later. It isn’t a common surgery, but it was a very simple recovery. I fully tore BOTH my ACLs (and a bit of meniscus). I had minimal bruising post-op and pain was manageable. Along the way, Dr. Ramkumar was there and easily accessible via text messages. He is extremely attentive to my needs. When he advised me to consider partial knee vs. Total knee, he explained the logic for his recommendation. I respected his opinion and I am vey happy with the outcome. He took the time to walk me back to get an X-ray and spent time explaining my unique condition and what he will do to help relieve my pain I had for years. He helped coordinate my surgery from start to finish and he would call to update me on every step… all prescriptions was called in. Also, my concerns about having surgery in the hospital instead of outpatient was important because of my medical history and he was instrumental in making sure my surgery was scheduled as an inpatient procedure. The day of surgery he came in early to explain all the details of my procedure and what to expect after the procedure was done. After surgery he updated my family and he took the time to answer any and all questions and showed pictures of before and after surgery, which was 100% better than what I was dealing with for years. Even after a long day of doing other patients surgeries he took the time to come visit me before he left for the day. The next day after my surgery he came and spoke to PT and told them exactly what type of therapy exercises he wanted. He even got on the ground to demonstrate the exercises. He made arrangements for me to continue physical therapy after I was discharged, so I didn’t have to worry. He made himself available all hours of the day calling to check on me or a text. He answered most of my questions by referring me to his website. He never came to check on me after the surgery; instead, he gave me a phone call late that evening?! When I told him I didn’t want opioids for pain because they make me very nauseous, he walked away with an attitude, saying, 'Okay, then you'll be in pain.' > > The most frustrating part of this experience, however, was dealing with his scheduling nurse, Jessica. She took her time processing paperwork, causing delays, and repeatedly blaming it on my insurance (when in fact my insurance was approving referrals promptly). I was in pain, my torn meniscus was preventing my knee from fully extending, and I was unable to work. Dr. Ramkumar had offered to schedule the surgery within two weeks and said Jessica would call me on Monday. Jessica never called me on Monday. When I reached her on Tuesday morning, she told me I would have to wait until she got to my file. She processed it later that afternoon, and it was approved by my insurance on Thursday. Yet, Jessica didn't follow up until Monday, and the delays just continued. I didn’t know what to do, so I emailed Dr. Ramkumar for help, but he just referred me back to Jessica. > > This continued after my surgery and also delayed my rehab by two weeks. > > I had my surgery in 3 weeks (instead of 2), and that was only because I kept urging things and reaching out to ensure Jessica did her job.
