I highly recommend Dr. Ramkumar as my husband had an excellent experience. The level of professionalism, knowledge, and personal attention was outstanding. Dr. Ramkumar took the time to listen carefully explain everything clearly and made us feel comfortable and confident throughout the process. The staff was also kind, efficient, and caring. It is rare to find a doctor who combines such expertise with genuine compassion. We are very grateful for the excellent care received. We would highly recommend this practice to anyone needing expert orthopedic knee care.

Dr. Ramkumar is so awesome! From the beginning of my diagnoses, he was very transparent with me about my options and how full hip replacement would look for me. I was extremely afraid as this was my first surgery, but Dr. Ramkumar wasn’t pushy. He met me with factual information, images, and humor (especially when I was in tears). My full hip replacement as a 33 year old woman, was not only very neat, clean, and seamless, but it restored my self-esteem and ability to move the way that I’m used to. I have absolutely no complaints! I’m so glad I went with a second opinion, which is how I met Dr. Ramkumar. As a former athlete, I needed someone who has expertise in understanding the many facets of my range of motion and what I expected after surgery (to return to a semi-active lifestyle) that includes attention to diet and holistic options. Thank you so much for your precision, attention to detail, and knowledge. I couldn’t have chosen a better surgeon nor team!

Dr. Ramkumar is the most extraordinary human being, doctor, and surgeon I have ever met. He is kind and hopeful while also being practical and honest. I went to four so-called specialists with a complex ACL and cartilage injury after enduring two previously failed surgeries at Cedars and USC. I thought I would never return to soccer and running again after previous opinions told me it was basically impossible. Well, two years later I'm playing collegiate soccer and couldn't be happier after a revision ACL and cartilage transplant. I wish I just went to him in the first place instead of wasting years trying to rehab a knee that never felt right and wasn't done properly. He called me the night before surgery just to tell me "I got you" and to make sure I understood the plan for the next day, the next 2 weeks, the next 9 months, and the next 10 years. He understood me and my goals and treated me as a family member and gave me world class care. I consider myself lucky to be his patient and to know him. Thank you Dr. Ramkumar!

I was “bone on bone“ in both of my knees and had been to see 3 different knee specialists over the past 10 yrs. Dr. Ramkumar was the first and only one of the three to tell me that a partial knee replacement was even an option. It was what he recommended, and he backed it up with my x-rays and a clear explanation as to why a partial vs. a full was the clear way to go. Besides his phenomenal surgical expertise, one of the things I really appreciated about Dr. R is that he “got me“. I’m on the chronologically gifted side of things (71YO), but he took the time to understand how active a lifestyle I led, and the things I wanted to be able to keep doing after surgery, i.e. motocross ride, snow ski, pickleball, golf, hike and last but not least - play with our 7 grandkids! I worked out for 2 1/2 months prior to surgery to get my legs in the best possible shape and to help with recovery. Post surgery results have FAR exceeded my expectations. I know every patient will be different, but I have not experienced the pain level I anticipated. As of this writing, I’m 2 1/2 weeks post surgery and have only had to take two pain pills, and I walked 3.1 miles the day after surgery. We went to Disneyland with some friends a week and a day after surgery and walked from 9am-10:30pm. I was tired at the end but no knee pain following either walk! I would highly encourage anyone to pay Dr. R a visit, especially if you’ve already been told you need a full knee replacement. That’s nothing to mess with, and a second opinion could be very helpful in making an informed and wise decision.

I'm 3-months post-op from my meniscus repair done by Dr. Ramkumar and I'm super happy with the outcome. As a 66-year old mountain biker, golfer and pickleball player, I really appreciate his approach focusing on repair first vs automatically shaving or removing the meniscus, since repair helps slow the onset of osteo arthritis and will help extend my athletic life. The pre-op visits with Dr. Ramkumar were great! I never felt rushed, he took time to answer all my questions and discuss options. He's friendly and easy going with a great sense of humor which helped me feel alot less nervous about the surgery and recovery process. 5 stars for Dr. Ramkumar and his team!

Bilateral partial knee replacement surgery on Feb 10, 2026, walking almost immediately and back road cycling 8 weeks later. The recovery has been very consistent and fast. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Ramkumar and his team. The procedure and recovery feels like a paradigm shift in this field.

Seriously one of the best doctors I’ve had. Before seeing Dr. Ramkumar I had been suffering from knee pain for 10 months, I had multiple imaging, saw two specialist and received PT and no one could tell me what was wrong until I went to see him. On first meeting him he was very kind, and I didn’t feel rushed in sharing my lengthy experience with my injury, he listened. Within the first 5 minutes of meeting him he was able to see my MRI and identify a tear in my meniscus, something that had been missed by the radiologist and all the other doctors I had seen. I had my surgery within the 3 weeks from that appointment. I am so grateful to him and his staff for the amazing support they have provided during the entire process. I am now 5 weeks out and have been recuperating so smoothly. I truly recommend him to anyone, he is the one to see!

I was a former collegiate basketball player whose worst nightmare came true: I tore my ACL. (I used hamstring graft for reconstruction). All the hard work to achieve my childhood dream vanished in an instant. The mentality of every athlete is to never let the injury win. Long story short and several setbacks later, I never returned to play. When I did for a short 9 games, I tore the other ACL (cue major depression). I decided to hang it up, thinking I was never meant to be here at the collegiate level. I didn't rehab hard enough. I just wasn't good enough. The injury won. However, physically, I was never the same. I lived in pain and my knee never felt right. I initially limited my workouts to running and no heavy lifting (dead lifts, power cleans/jerks, etc.) to focus on school/work without pain. As years dragged on, the pain kept getting worse: the knee was locking with simple movements, extremely painful after leg day and running was becoming irritating. Suddenly, I couldn't bike for 10 minutes without irritation, pain and struggling at work. I tried no resistance and higher seats without relief. I decided to finally address this. The injury was still haunting me 10 years later. A quick google search brought me Dr. Prem Ramkumar. I read his website: the information was so detailed and his publications were impressive. Not only that but this guy trained at the #1 orthopedic hospital in the country (HSS) and was team doctor for a professional basketball and soccer team. He took X-rays and was shocked. He explained: the previous surgeon placed my ACL tunnels/grafts incorrectly, making my ACL too vertical. This meant that although I had an ACL, it wasn't functioning the way it should. He couldn't believe that I tried returning to basketball with this knee. He further explained that it didn't matter how much I rehabbed or how hard I worked, the mechanical problem IS the reason I couldn't go back to basketball. This unknown weight I had suddenly lifted. All these doubts and questions: answered. He was kind and gentle with explaining this to me, probably because he heard the distress in my voice and the look on my face. He got a MRI and I also had a bucket handle tear of my meniscus, the worse kind you can have. I mean if I have to tear something else, might as well go big right? We discussed my options and I elected to have a revision ACL using patellar tendon, repairing my meniscus and utilizing Bone Marrow Aspirate/Stem Cells with LET. He explained the LET was to further decrease my risk for tearing my ACL (I would definitely crash out if I tore it again). Side note: a quick google search found that most surgeons would have cut out my meniscus since this tear is difficult to heal. He wanted to try and save my meniscus to slow down the progression of arthritis which I appreciate. The stem cells would help with healing. Recovery: I followed his post operative protocol to a tee. I was able to bend my knee to 90 degrees 3 hours after surgery. I was on a stationary bike by day 6. While biking, I had absolutely no pain. I HAD TEARS IN MY EYES BECAUSE WHY WAS I LIVING LIKE THIS BEFORE AND ACTED LIKE IT WAS OKAY? Given that I have been through this 2 other times, I knew what exercises to get started with. I progressed quickly and was able to be out of my brace by 1 week due to my strength. I went back to work by 1 week with NO PAIN. I STILL HAVE NO PAIN. I know not everyone is as crazy as me or maybe has the pain tolerance as me but I have no pain other than normal surgical things and my recovery is going so well. It's easier than my hamstring recovery. I am currently 4 months post op and have a long way to go but I'm extremely happy, grateful and excited. If you have an ACL issue or even need a revision ACL please highly consider him. He's the best on the west coast! To Dr. Ramkumar: Thank you so much for everything. Thank you for hearing me & fixing me physically. You healed the former athlete in me and I couldn't be more thankful for that. Your team is amazing and a reflection of your dedication to your craft.

Dr. Ramkumar has been one of the best experiences I could have asked for. I had a complex lateral knee injury that many doctors before misdiagnosed. Dr. Ramkumar was extremely honest, focused, and not rushed to surgery, in fact he was able in a few months get me back to normal without surgery, when many doctors prior said that surgery was necessary. He was very honest, no sugarcoating the truth, which to me is preferred when you have to make tough decisions. He was extremely knowledgeable and was able to explain the injury in a way that I couldn’t understand and feel confident in my decision making. This quality is very important when dealing with complex injuries where most average people do not understand the healing process and what you can and can’t do. I couldn’t be more grateful for him and the team putting such care into doing everything they could to heal my knee before rushing into surgery. I was concerned because this injury was quite unique I was worried I would t be able to find the right guy, but luckily I was able to get time with Dr. Ramkumar.

I am so happy that my doctor referred me to Dr. Ramkumar for my meniscus repair surgery. I was in shock when I had found out that I completely tour it and honestly was scared but after my first meeting with Dr. Ramkumar I knew I was in good hands. He kept it straight with me told me what it mean and also educated me on what he will do and why that would be more beneficial for me because of my age. I also really appreciated that he was direct about it like this is what’s it’s going to be like and until my surgery he aid I could still do everything I have been doing. Of course once I had surgery I needed to cut back a little but he was amazing and I honestly wish he did other surgeries so I would have someone to go to if I ever needed it. My scars are pretty much gone it was two openings very small on the sides and he did amazing. Thank you for everything and thank you for making me first surgery smooth.

I was referred to Dr. Ramkumar after having suffered a major injury to my left knee. I received a partial knee replacement and honestly could not be happier. Until seeing Dr. Ramkumar I had no idea that partial knee replacements were even available. The entire process pre/post surgery was so seamless and efficient. I felt so comfortable with the care that I received. Dr. Ramkumar is not only professional and knowledgeable in his field but he is also kind and compassionate in his delivery of care. I would definitely recommend Dr. Ramkumar, his team and entire staff as they are absolutely incredible.

Dr. Ramkumar is a miracle worker! My name is Judy and I had a shattered hip that had been getting worse for more than six months and had trouble finding a surgeon who would do a replacement for me, considering my age and my health. I was able to have an anterior hip replacement done because Dr. Ramkumar knew how important being able to function on my own and maintain my independence meant to me. I’m living proof he can accomplish excellence for his patients! Sincerely,J. Murphy.

I was having a difficult time walking, and surgery was my last option to try and give me quality of life. My current doctor suggested a hip replacement and referred Dr. Ramkumar, a specialist in total hip replacement. I was greeted with a smile, a handshake, and encouraging words to find the best option for my situation. He suggested the anterior total hip arthroplasty surgery assisted with MAKO, a robotic arm. His knowledge of the lastest technology and providing a detail explanation of the procedure could give a shorter time of recovery, was the best option. His meticulous guide was easy to follow from pre-op through post-op and helped me with a positive outcome. I was walking the next day, no limping, not in pain and a smooth moving hip! My appreciation to Dr. Ramkumar for being in tune to my specific symptoms and providing transparency to my specific needs.

Two years ago, I had a partial knee replacement by Dr. Ramkumar. Prior to the surgery I was seen at both of his offices in Long Beach and Lakewood for the initial consultations, x-rays, surgery preparation, etc. His office staff were professional and friendly. The day of the surgery, I was scheduled to arrive at 5AM, may be earlier, I was a little intimidated by the looks of the surgery building (had never been to à “surgery building”, I mean the building is nice but it’s specifically dedicated to surgeries-meat chopping room 😳). My amazing doctor comes in and immediately makes me feel comfortable. He is young, BUT he is skilled, experienced and he is the best at what he does. I have heard horrible stories about knee replacements, but after my own surgery I highly recomend that you get yourself out of misery and get your knee replacement done. And if you choose Dr Ramkumar you will not be disappointed.

Dr. Ramkumar performed my right hip arthroscopy 10 weeks ago. I was born with bilateral hip dysplasia, which led to labral tears in both hips. I initially tried physical therapy, but unfortunately it did not improve my symptoms. I was then referred to Dr. Ramkumar, who recommended hip arthroscopy. He took the time to ensure I fully understood the treatment plan and addressed all of my questions with care and professionalism. Before the surgery, I experienced significant pain while sitting or driving for extended periods. I am pleased to report that I am now pain-free in my right hip. The outcome of the surgery has been excellent, and based on my experience, I plan to proceed with left hip arthroscopy under his care as well. Dr. Ramkumar is an outstanding physician, and his office staff are consistently polite, professional, and attentive. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking expert care for hip conditions.

⭐ Thank you Dr. Ramkumar I spent more than seven years dealing with worsening hip pain, and it slowly took away the things I loved. I couldn’t play golf or even hit balls on the driving range. I had to stop doing the sideline marker for high school football — something I truly enjoyed. Eventually, even a simple 20 minute walk became painful. My world kept getting smaller, and I knew something had to change. That change came when I met Dr. Ramkumar. I’m now 11 weeks post op from my anterior hip replacement, and the difference is remarkable. I’m improving every day — walking comfortably, regaining strength, and finally seeing a future where I can return to the activities I’ve missed for so long. My goal was never just a quick recovery, but a complete recovery, and for the first time in years, that goal is clearly in sight. The entire experience has been exceptional not only because of Dr. Ramkumar’s surgical skill and clear communication, but also because of his outstanding team. Margo, his assistant, has been incredibly responsive and supportive. Stephanie, the scheduler, made every step of the process smooth and stress free. And Mina, the physical therapist, has been instrumental in my progress — he’s guided me through each stage of rehab with expertise and encouragement. I’m continuing therapy with him for another three weeks, and each session moves me closer to full strength. Thanks to Dr. Ramkumar and his team, I’m not just healing — I’m getting my life back. I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone facing hip issues or considering joint replacement.

Dr. Ramkumar and his staff are truly the best! Going into my first appointment, I already knew I had a torn meniscus. However, after a simple X‑ray, Dr. Ramkumar immediately noticed that my ACL and knee alignment didn’t look right. It turned out that my previous ACL graft from eight years ago was not properly working anymore. Hearing that I needed an ACL reconstruction along with a meniscus repair was overwhelming, but the way Dr. Ramkumar explained everything—what happened, how he would fix it, and why gave me complete confidence that I was in the best hands. I was genuinely excited for surgery because I trusted him completely and knew he would be able to fix my knee so I could begin my journey back to lifting weights and swimming again. After surgery, I felt stronger than I ever have after a procedure. I was walking without crutches around two weeks post‑op. Dr. Ramkumar provides a clear, easy‑to‑follow post‑op plan so patients know exactly what to expect and how to track their progress. I’ve also spoken with other patients in the waiting room, and it’s clear he has helped so many people become pain‑free—from knee replacements to ACL repairs like mine, including both medial and lateral meniscus repairs. Now, three months post‑surgery, I can confidently say I am beyond grateful for my decision to walk into Dr. Ramkumar’s office for help with my knee pain. Dr. Ramkumar and his entire staff are incredibly kind, patient, and always willing to answer any questions. They make every office visit enjoyable because they’re such a warm and welcoming team. Ms. Stephanie was amazing to work with. She helped me plan my surgery date and made sure I had everything I needed leading up to the procedure. Ishan was also extremely helpful he answered all my questions and helped set up the post‑surgery app so they can track how their patients are doing. Overall, such a supportive and organized team! I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Ramkumar and his staff to anyone needing hip, knee, or ACL surgery. He is truly the best, and I can’t wait for my next appointment! GOATED staff !! Thank you all so much!!

I recently underwent hip resurfacing surgery with Dr. Ramkumar, and if I could give him ten stars instead of five, I absolutely would. From start to finish, my experience has been exceptional, and I am beyond pleased with both my recovery and the mobility I’ve regained. Before surgery, I was diagnosed with grade 4 chondromalacia of the pelvis along with severe tearing and fraying of the labrum. The pain and stiffness were constant and significantly limited my daily life. I couldn’t participate in the activities I love, and at my worst, I could barely bend down to tie my shoes. Now, just seven weeks post-op, my joint pain is gone, my mobility has dramatically improved, and I can already place my palms flat on the floor — something that felt impossible before surgery. The smoothness of my recovery has exceeded my expectations. While many surgeons list hip resurfacing among the procedures they perform, only a select few in the United States have the depth of experience and expertise to truly excel at it. Dr. Ramkumar is one of those few. His extensive experience, meticulous surgical technique, and use of advanced technology to ensure precise implant positioning made all the difference in my outcome. I chose to travel out of state specifically to have my surgery performed by Dr. Ramkumar, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. His skill, thoroughness, and genuine care are evident in every aspect of the process. If you’re considering hip resurfacing, Dr. Ramkumar checks every box. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I had my Left Total Hip Replacement (LTHR) on 12/15/25, and I was understandably nervous going into surgery. From my very first appointment, I felt truly cared for by Dr. Prem N. Ramkumar and his staff. Everyone has been incredibly kind, informative, and genuinely supportive throughout my entire recovery process. They arranged physical therapy to come to my home, promptly answered every question I had, and made sure I never felt alone on this journey. Dr. Ramkumar always goes above and beyond to explain the next steps in healing and treatment, something I didn’t experience with other doctors in the past. With him, I truly felt heard and seen, not dismissed because of my age, weight, or genetics, as had often been the case before. Dr. Ramkumar got to the root of my hip issue, and now my left hip feels brand new, pain-free, and functioning so much better than I ever hoped. I’m now planning my right hip replacement soon, and this time I have no fear or doubts about the outcome or my road to recovery. Thank you, Dr. Ramkumar and team, for restoring my mobility and confidence.

If you need arthroscopic hip surgery, then you need Dr Ramkumar. I've had lower back and knee problems for 15 years ever since college and he caught it immediately. I trusted him throughout the entire process as he's one of the best doctors in the LA area who performs this unique procedure. I hit the 10 week mark since my surgery and feeling really good in my recovery. Their physical therapists, lead by Mina Sidarous, are some of the best and help guide you through the exercises with care and precision. I did PT 2 hours a day and was on an exercise bike the day after surgery thanks to Prem's recommendation. Dr. Prem & Mina are the best! If you have any lower back pain, knee pain, or deal with painful sciatica running down your leg like I did and played a lot of active sports in highschool, go see Dr. Prem! My life is now so much better, a before & after arthroscopic hip surgery, thanks to him.
