Questions for your care

## Know what *to ask.*

Choosing your care

### [Bringing a caregiver or trusted person to an orthopedic appointment](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/bringing-caregiver-orthopedic-appointment/)

A trusted person can help you remember the conversation and manage next steps. Decide together what support you want, while keeping your priorities at the center of the visit.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/bringing-caregiver-orthopedic-appointment/)

Choosing your care

### [What good care coordination looks like before and after treatment](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/care-coordination-before-after-orthopedic-treatment/)

Good coordination turns a treatment recommendation into a plan you can follow: the right records, clear responsibilities, and someone to contact when the next step is unclear.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/care-coordination-before-after-orthopedic-treatment/)

Choosing your care

### [Who is the best orthopedic physician for your problem? Start with fit](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/choosing-orthopedic-physician-best-fit/)

The right orthopedic physician starts with your problem, your goals, and a clear explanation of the choices. Use expertise, communication, and access together when making your decision.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/choosing-orthopedic-physician-best-fit/)

Choosing your care

### [How to read physician reviews without confusing experience with outcomes](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/how-to-read-physician-reviews/)

Patient reviews are most useful when they help you recognize the experience you want and prepare better questions. Read the details, the source, and the limits of each account.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/how-to-read-physician-reviews/)

Choosing your care

### [Making a nonsurgical orthopedic treatment trial useful](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/nonsurgical-treatment-trial-orthopedic-care/)

Trying nonsurgical care should come with a purpose, a practical plan, and a review point. Ask what you are testing, which improvement matters, and what would make the next decision clearer.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/nonsurgical-treatment-trial-orthopedic-care/)

Choosing your care

### [How to prepare for your first orthopedic visit and leave with a plan](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/preparing-first-orthopedic-visit/)

A short symptom story, the right records, and a few priorities can help your first orthopedic visit end with a plan you understand. You do not need to arrive with your own diagnosis.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/preparing-first-orthopedic-visit/)

Choosing your care

### [How to compare treatment options around your own goals](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/shared-decisions-treatment-options-patient-goals/)

A good treatment decision connects the evidence with your life: what you hope to do, which risks concern you, and what recovery would ask of you. Your priorities belong in that discussion.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/shared-decisions-treatment-options-patient-goals/)

Choosing your care

### [Before you consent to orthopedic surgery: the conversation to have](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/understanding-orthopedic-surgery-consent/)

Consent should follow a conversation you understand. Before an orthopedic operation, make sure the reason, alternatives, personal risks, and recovery demands are clear enough to discuss in your own words.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/understanding-orthopedic-surgery-consent/)

Knee

### [ACL injury: how to discuss surgery, rehabilitation and returning to sport](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/acl-injury-surgery-or-rehabilitation/)

Your knee’s stability, associated injuries and future demands should shape the ACL decision—and rehabilitation belongs in either pathway.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/acl-injury-surgery-or-rehabilitation/)

Knee

### [Meniscus tear: questions about therapy, repair, and partial removal](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/meniscus-tear-treatment-questions/)

The treatment choice depends on the tear, the rest of the knee and what is actually causing your symptoms.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/meniscus-tear-treatment-questions/)

Knee

### [Pain around the kneecap: what should a useful care plan include?](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/patellofemoral-knee-pain/)

Front-of-knee pain often needs a thoughtful movement and loading plan, not a rush to label every ache as damaged cartilage.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/patellofemoral-knee-pain/)

Patient experience

### [Finding clear explanations and a coordinated care team](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/listening-explanations-and-care-coordination/)

Clear care means more than receiving information. You should be able to connect the diagnosis, the choices, and the next step—and know how your team will help keep the plan together.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/listening-explanations-and-care-coordination/)

Patient experience

### [Choosing an orthopedic second opinion in LA, Long Beach, or Santa Monica](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/orthopedic-second-opinion-los-angeles/)

A second opinion can help you understand an uncertain diagnosis, compare treatment choices, or feel more prepared for a major decision. Choose the right expertise and make the visit answer a clear question.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/orthopedic-second-opinion-los-angeles/)

Shoulder

### [Pain at the front of the shoulder: questions about the biceps tendon](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/biceps-tendon-shoulder-pain/)

The biceps tendon can be part of a wider shoulder problem. A useful consultation explains what is injured and what each option is intended to change.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/biceps-tendon-shoulder-pain/)

Shoulder

### [Frozen shoulder: finding care that explains the slow recovery](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/frozen-shoulder-care/)

When stiffness disrupts sleep and everyday movement, a clear plan and realistic checkpoints can make a long recovery less confusing.

Shoulder

### [Rotator cuff tear: what should you ask a shoulder physician?](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/rotator-cuff-tear-physician-questions/)

A good discussion separates pain relief, strength, tendon healing and the recovery demands of each option.

Shoulder

### [Shoulder instability and labral injury: choosing a treatment plan](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/shoulder-instability-labral-tear/)

The treatment should address why the shoulder slips, not simply the word “tear” in an imaging report.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/shoulder-instability-labral-tear/)

Sports medicine

### [Choosing a sports medicine physician for your injury and goals](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/choosing-a-sports-medicine-physician/)

The right fit combines relevant expertise, a clear explanation and a plan for the activity you want to regain.

[Read the guide](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/choosing-a-sports-medicine-physician/)

Sports medicine

### [Returning to sport after injury: questions beyond “Am I cleared?”](https://commonsclinicreviews.com/articles/return-to-sport-after-injury/)

A meaningful return plan separates participation, sport and performance—and keeps the athlete involved in each decision.
